Don't you believe the coming generations are just being more and even more corrupt!!! I can't even imagined how my children going to be. What has happened to discipline? Then again, there's a point to stop, at a certain age, but still we have Elementary students who are mouthing off to their parents, better yet even before they entered school! It's crazy...what do you think about all this?

It really depends on the parents. I think we are coming out of a time when it was acceptable for both parents to work 60 hours a week and kids to sort of raise themselves. We are starting to get past the myth of "quality time" - remember that? Quality time - where you can work as much as you like, do your hobbies, have fun and if you spend an hour a week with your kids really focusing on them it's fine.

We're starting to recognize that raising kids is a career choice and a full time job. So, I actually see the tide turning back from the 1980's, 1990's grab all you can type of parenting back to the 1960's model of having a parent at home (often working from home, but that's better than being away 60 -70 hours a week.

One of the problems is that morality left the school along with religion. I'm all for separation of church and state but we still need to have civics classes to teach responsibility and a moral code where kids are expected to be respectful. And it wouldn't hurt to have parenting classes as part of the curriculum for all kids.

I think the answer is to instill a sense of self-respect in our children, and teach them to take responsibility for their actions. If children learn empathy and that their actions effect others, they will learn to be more conscious of their actions. A lot of people go through life not taking into account that the world is not just made up of them. So if we try to do what is right, help others, pay-it-forward, and put off positive energy others will be effected positively too. Change starts in with the children, when they are very young and learning their values. That is why it is so important to influence the lives of children in your community by being a positive influence. A simple smile and wave to a child in your neighborhood or at the store can go a long way.

Parents have to stop worrying about being "cool" and being their kid's best friend. Be a parent! Children need love, discipline and direction from their parents. Teach your children manners and respect. As a parent who feels teaching her kids to say "please" and "thank you" is important, I feel I'm fighting an uphill battle with the lazy parents who let their kids run amok. Don't have children if you aren't going to be a parent who teaches them how to grow up to respect our world and the other people in it.
