I want to know, so I can try to limit my calorie intake.

I am talking about just everyday things, nothing special for an office worker.

The recommended number is 2500 calories for a man. This is just for the body to maintain itself (ie digest, move, stay warm, breathe etc). If you eat 2500 in a day and do exercise (even gentle stuff) then you'll lose weight eventually because you use up more calories in a 24 hour period than you consume.

If you eat 2500 a day and do 500 calories worth of exercise a day (half an hour rowing or 5 mile jog/fast walk or about 60 mins cycling) then you'll lose about a pound a week of fat (keeping your muscle - indeed you may even put some on). A pound of fat is approx 3500 cals. so 500 calories used each day for 7 days = 3500 cals burned off in a week.

Personally, I cycle to and from work and it takes about 25 mins each way (also very hilly). This way I can do almost an hours activity each day and so I don't have that 'got no time for the gym' scenario that so many people have, which leads to inadvertant weight gain. good luck.

It relies upon on your weight, the quantity of muscle and fat that you've, and your habit easily. there is not any straightforward answer. One individual can weigh 2 hundred lbs and be frequently muscle, and burn a lot more beneficial without exercising compared to someone on a similar weight that's frequently fat. there is basically too many variables there.
