No possibility! there is quite some hoops to bounce with the aid of until now that happens. With tourist visa you can only travel but not work. For some country of origin, it is even impossible to change visa type while still remaining in Australia.

Check with the nearest Australian embassy/high comm for the type of visa suitable for you.

You could but it would be some dodgy bastard trying to pay you a pathetic wage because you dont legally have a work visa. You need to try to get a working holiday visa which I believe maybe available to US citizens now
