I am an indian. Most indian prefer to use indian styles toilet seats and western styles are are an embrassment to them. But in our office building ( and for that matter at many places) we only have western styles seats . What does this mean?

I am in india only. If I were somewhere else I would not have dared to ask. You may also know that there are only indians in our office and no foreigner!
Indian style is what your grandfathers were doing like when they had not invented any seats.

Indian toilet seats are not seats to sit upon. Instead, its put by digging into the normal level of floor. So instead of being raised over the floor , its put into by digging into the floor. You sit plainly.

Thank you for adding additional details. Then I guess it is what Sheriam said, your company probably wants to look modern by using Western styles.
Why does everyone assume the asker is in the US? This is an international site, some countries also have a site of their own (see the links below) but the default when you go to 'answers.yahoo.com' is this one, it is not a US-only community.

Well, where is your office building located? Are you living in India, or are you working for a company with lots of Indians but living abroad?
I think many places in third world countries want to appear modern and thus use Western styles of construction, furniture, etc. Often there are technological advantages to this but sometimes some things that functioned very well do get thrown out when there really isn't any good reason for it, when our Western method isn't better, just because many people see modernising/Westernising as a 'package deal'.
Btw, what do your toilets look like? Got a link to a picture or can you describe one?

If you are in India, I would see this as an insult to your culture and tradition. If you are in the US, this is something you had better get used to, for I don't see the US adopting to use any other style of toilet seat in the near future! By the way, would you care to explain to us what the difference is between and Indian toilet seat and ours and why it is an embarrassment to you to use one of ours?

It means you're in America. I'm not trying to be rude, but if I were in India, I would use the toilet and not complain. Maybe you should get a petition going around and if you get enough signatures on it, you can get an Indian toilet put in your office. Otherwise, just poop like the rest of us here.

well, western style is certainly more sanitary than say , the japanese/chinese hole in the floor style!! I am not sure what style you are referring to, but here in the good ol U.S.A. we prefer not to hover over holes in the floor!!!

At least you have a place to "go". What's so embarrassing? You go in there like everyone else, and you "go" like everyone else.
No big deal.
