Please don't give your cat any OTC medication made for humans, even at a child's dose human medication can kill a cat.
It sounds very much like your cat has an upper respiratory infection....those really must be treated properly, it's not something that will just go away by itself.
Call your Vet and tell him/her what's going on with your cat.
Explain that you don't have the money right now...most Vets will set up a payment plan for you....a good Vet is not going to let your cat continue to be sick just because you're short of money right now.
Also, you could try calling your local humane society or animal shelter...they will sometimes offer low or no cost Vet care.
Good luck, I hope kitty is on the mend soon!

Well, okay. First of all, don't give him any human meds. Even children's doses are WAY too much, think about it, a cat usually weighs oh, I would say 9 to 12 pounds (based on the weights of my 2 cats, one is smaller than average, one is quite large, but not fat). Even children weigh more than that!!
Anyhow, here is my suggestion. When I first got my one cat, he was really sick and sneezing constantly and his eyes were messy and he had great big black boogers in his cute little pink nose. What did I do?? Well, I fed him goat's milk. It is a wonder food, I am telling you. It made him stop sneezing in just a day or two and he was completely well with no sign that he had even been sick in like a week.
From everything I have heard and read, cow's milk is not good for cats. People feed this to their cats all the time, but it is not good for them. Supposedly, although they love milk, they don't need any, ever, after they are finished drinking from their mother.
However, I here to tell you that goat's milk is really good for cats. I have read about it sometimes and tried it on them myself. It cleared him right up and a couple of years later when he caught some kind of a "cold" or something, I used it again, and it cleared right up.
Okay, so where do you get goat's milk? Well, you can ask around if there are any kind of farms nearby, someone should be able to tell you who has goats that would sell you some milk. I have no idea where you live like a city or small town, but it really shouldn't be that hard to find. I live in a small town and know of several people in the area that have goats, but I used to get it from my mother-in-law, so I kind of had a built in source.
Try it though, I am telling you, it is wonderful and a lot cheaper than going to the vet's and it isn't some nasty chemical medicine either, it is nutritious!
Good luck!

Most vets will offer information for free regarding animals.
If it where me I would try something herbal, if you have any herbal shops I would go there and buy some suppliments for a cold, many of these would, or should, be safe for your cat since they are all natural.
Here are the names of some pet safe medicines that may be found in your local herb shop.
Slippery Elm
The bark of this tree is used as an aid to the digestive system for pets that suffer from constipation and upset stomach. It has also been used as a cough suppressant and a poultice (an herb that is boiled down into a paste, cooled, and applied to the skin).
Echinacea
Echinacea is a well-known immunostimulant. It is said to improve the immune system and help pets fight off infections, diseases, and even cancer.
Ginger
Chinese medicine has been using this root for centuries as an anti-inflammatory and an aid for stomach problems. Ginger is said to help animals with car sickness and digestive problems like gas and diarrhea.
Saint John's Wort
Though it has gained fame in human medicine as a treatment for depression, this herb is used as a treatment for viral infections and neural disorders in alternative veterinary medicine.
I would also check my pet food brand with a local vet to see if they know if it has been part of the huge petfood recall. And it is always a good idea to check for plants that may be causing these symptoms to occur, (your cat may have allergies)
I hope this helps, and good luck.

I am sorry to say but the best sollution would be take him to the vet. They have this medicine that has chicken broth in it along with powder. That is the best way to get you cat healthy in the shortest amount of time. I think the price is about 20 and if you go to petsmart on the right days they have a vet that comes in and does not charge office payments. Ask them for the chicken broth liquid that has powder. Tell him to fell better. GOOD LUCK

Contact the humane society, they should help you with him and you can sort out a payment with them.
Please get him help and don't let him suffer.
You shouldn't give medicine unless it's specifically for a cat and you have correct dosages. Don't give goat's milk it has as much lactose as cow's milk and will give him diarrhea.

sounds like he is getting into something that he is allergic to.
i would not give human meds, could make him worse. check areas where he goes ant try to find out what the cause is and eliminate. i had a cat that would get into my garden and whenever i had tomato plants he would do same thing-it could be some kind of plant around your house-check everything

I dunno if this will help but there has been a recall on 100 different kinds of food for cats and dogs. It is making the animals very sick. If you call your local vet they will have the list of brands that has been part of the recall but it is making animals real sick and some have died as well . I saw this on the news yesterday. 03/19/07. Good luck!

You can get goat's milk from a good health food store and last resort in a can at your regular grocery store.

You can kill your cat with human "medications", that way you won't have to worry any longer about not being able to take him to the vet. You can continue to have your cell phone, internet connection, lattes or whatever. Your priorities in life are pretty obvious from your post and you should not have any pet who will not get medical treatment when it needs it.
