I think many people has a misconception about Islam and Muslims.
I've been living in Indonesia for more than 16 years. The people here are very nice. I think the reason why many people are afraid to come to Idonesia, is because the government has failed to improve the country's security since the 2002 bali bombing. But, now with the new president, Susilo B. Yudhoyono, he and his administration is serious in fighting terrorism, and there hasn't been a terrrorist attack last year.
Salam kenal!

I was in Jakarta few months after the Malays burned down the local Chinatown. Although, I am not a Chinese, I find it horrific. I guess that is an internal problem among Indonesians themselves. Anyhow, I am not afraid of the people as I find them friendly. However, I am afraid with the local run transportation like airplanes, sea vessels, etc. especially lately when you see / hear all the disasters after another.

About 12 years ago, I travelled extensively around Indonesia by myself and with friends. I had a wonderful time, saw many beautiful places and met many beautiful warm friendly people.
However, now I feel a lot more wary......would I recommend young women now to do what i did back then.....I don`t know.

I know you have a beautiful country, great food and good prices; but I will not visit there. Muslum extremists do not like Christians and you have plenty of them in Indo. For me I will stick with Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Buddist and Christians get along just fine.
