The best way to lose weight is to cut out all refined sugar (including high fructose corn syrup, which actually turns straight to fat in your system because it cannot be digested), all pre-packaged foods that have ingredients you do not recognize, and cut out all white foods. Stick with products that say "100% whole grain." and watch for refined flour in your food. It's not healthy to cut all carbs out, you just have to eat the right ones. The less refined the food, the better. You should also cut out all animal products (believe me, this works great!), and portion your plate as follows:
For slow weight loss, you stack your plate with 75% starch and 25% vegetables (such as a salad, steamed greens, etc)
For moderate weight loss: the ratio is 50/50
For rapid weight loss: 25% starches and 75% vegetables.
Your starch can be a potato, squash, corn, or brown rice, etc. Your vegetables can be any veggie that is not considered a starch, and should be steamed, baked or raw with no added fat.
Also, try eating a healthy fat about half an hour before your main meal...such as half a raw avacado, a handful of almonds, etc. Never eat any hydrogenated fats! If you are partial to margarine, try Earth balance (not smart balance...this one is found in health food stores) margarine. It is much healthier for you but should still be used in moderation. Also try adding a dash of turmeric or cinnamon to your food. It helps release a hormone called cck in the gut which tells your brain to stop eating.
Feel free to eat tons of fresh fruit every day. Natural sugar is very good for you! It also helps to eat the same things for breakfast and lunch every day. It sounds boring, but it helps because if you have to think about what you are going to eat for your meals, you will most likely gravitate towards something unhealthy. Also try packing snacks of cut up veggies to take with you and snack on. This makes it easy to get your 6+ servings of vegetables a day. Your protien should come from nuts and seeds, and you should take a multivitamin fortified with calcium every day.

Everytime I need to lose 5-10 pounds, I cut carbs (think less than 30 a day) The weight will come back when you start eating normal but you do lose weight fast, and you don't have to exercise.

Hi, right now I am in the process of loosing a little less than 20 pounds. I don't think you should skip meals and stuff, what I do is eat healthy food, or eat how I normally do except I eat a portion that will not make me full after I eat it. You should eat when you are hungry, but eat only untill you are satisfied, not untill you are full. When you eat till you are full (stuffed) you are constantly stretching your stomach to feel full.
Just eat regular food, but smaller portions and do some excercise and you should loose the few pounds you wish to loose. It is all about self control.

You can try cutting down your portion sizes. Many people overestimate what they actually eat daily. Take a look at the food pyramid, or Canada's food guide to determine what a serving size is...then measure out your food...you'll be surprised how many calories you can cut back on that way.
Adding 30mins of exercise to your day will help too.

Start exercising....you can start slow and work yourself up to more. Do cardio or aerboics 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Watch your protions and cut down a little on the calories you consume. Best way is to cut out the calories you drink.
