I know the field isnt announced, but are there any horses out there that are impressing people now, and are sure to enter in the Derby? There has to be some names floating around that are expected to do big things in the Derby. And if you have an idea of a good horse, can you let me know when thier next race is, so I can get a good look for myself on how the horse performs??

It is definitely not to early to think about them, but I think it is too early to get married to them, if you know what I'm saying. I like Street Sense and Stormello at this point, but there are so many huge races left that I'm trying to stay open minded. I'd like to see Stormello rated next time out, but I know Kent Desormeaux knows how to do that.

No, It is not too early at all. A lot of Derby Prep races have already been run. There are over 300 horses nominated for the Kentucky Derby, and this list is slowly being narrowed down each week. You can check the sports section of USAToday, CNN and even Yahoo and find a update each week on the races that have been run. In addition, you can check out the Louisville KY newspaper for a insight to each Derby contender. http://www.courierjournal.com/cjsports/trackside/database/index.html
The Daily Racing Form on line at http://www.drf.com has lots of infor too on the Kentucky Derby. Another good site is the Kentucky Derby web site at http://www.kentuckyderby.com
And in case you do not want to do lots of research a few horses that are worth watching are Street Sense, Cobalt Blue, Any Given Saturday, Scat Daddy, Great Hunter and Circular Quay. Enjoy!

It's not too early to start thinking about it... but anything can still happen between now and Derby day that would change your picks.

I like Great Hunter, Circular Quay (son of Thunder Gulch), Scat Daddy, Street Sense (but he won the Breeders Juvenile and no Juvenile winner has ever won the Derby... and he had a tough race on Saturday against Any Given Saturday... he ran well... so i like him... maybe he can be the first Juvenile winner to win the Derby).

Others to look for: Nobiz Like Shobiz, Notional, Any Given Saturday, Cobalt Blue, Curlin (both of those 2 have won both their starts this year), Stormello, Imawildncrazyguy

Street Sense will run in the Bluegrass Stakes. I heard that Great Hunter is going to Kentucky, but I'm not sure because they wanted to keep Liquidity in CA for the Santa Anita Derby, but Liquidity didn't do very well in his last race. I'm not sure where the others are going.

You can watch all of their past races here:

Races to look at there and the horses that ran:
San Felipe Stakes: Cobalt Blue
Rebel Stakes: Curlin
The Tampa Bay Derby: Street Sense and Any Given Saturday
Louisiana Derby: Circular Quay
Robert B Lewis Stakes: Great Hunter
Fountain of Youth Stakes: Scat Daddy, Stormello, Nobiz Like Shobiz
Risen Star Stakes: Notional (Circular Quay also ran, but he got stuck behind the horses who fell, so he didn't finish well)
Holy Bull Stakes: Nobiz Like Shobiz and Scat Daddy

Street Sense is in due to the graded stakes winnings he has, that is without a doubt (as long as he stays healthy). Curlin made an impressive run this past week-end, but he has to play catch up on graded stakes earnings. Great Hunter is at the top of the list, and I don't think he has any $ worries about getting in. I still like Nobiz Like Shobiz, but he sure needs work to overcome the "green-ness" he showed in The Fountain of Youth.

It always comes down to graded stakes earnings, with entries made final the week of the Derby( Wednesday I think Post Positions are drawn).

I thought Street Sense has an extremely impressive prep race. I also like Cobalt Blue (I think, I'm going to have to re-watch to make sure it was him) but if he's who i'm thinking of he showed tons of heart and courage the stuff of Derby winners. Everyone is saying they expect big things of Great Hunter but I'm not all that impressed with him yet. I can't really say why, i just don't think he has it. Course a lot of this is just guess work anyway. I'm going to keep watching Street Sense and Cobalt Blue and see who else comes out of some of the other big prep races.

The first future wager was a month ago so it's not too early. The derby site is a good place to look http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2007/
I still like Air Commander but anything can happen between now and the derby

No I don't think so. I already have Derby picks! Like four! So you just keep picking because the first saturday in may is coming up very soon~and if you would like to stay up-dated w/ horses in the Derby or so-far big picks just go to...
