The sex cells are also called gametes or germ cells.

Specifically, male sex cells are called sperm cells. Technically, motile sperm cells with flagella are called spermatozoon. Immotile cells without flagella are called spermatium. Female sex cells are called ova. When a sperm cell and ova are fused, they are called a zygote.
