does any one agree with me that a bullet for saddam would have been a lot cheaper than the eventual cost of the war

To be honest Andrew, Murdering Saddam in any way including his hanging has cost the west dear. It is also costing the people;e of Iraq dear. Saddam may not have been the ideal leader according to the west but he was the best alternative the Iraqis had, certainly a better alternative than what they have got now; of course Iraq is now a colony of America and will be at least until the oil runs dry. Are you one of those who think there will be a blood bath if the Americans leave? Saddam died as a brave Iraqi and no one who saw the recording of his death will be able to deny that fact and there were literally millions of all nationalities who saw him being humiliated yet still holding his nerve as he waved the hood and answered those that humiliated him. To continue to desecrate such bravery to me shows a weakness in character of the perpetrators of such a campaign..

Hussein wasn't the only problem. He had followers that would and are raging in his honor. The Sunni's are just as responsible for the chaos in Iraq. Their "jihad" against the shiites is more to blame for mass casualties than any U.S. surge for sure!

your point is mute. He's already dead...hanged a few weeks ago, for being convicted for "crimes against humanity". We will probably never know the "total" cost of the war.

He wasn't the only problem, just about everyone else in his regime was just as bad. Any one of them would gladly have taken over as the new dictator. Civil war possibly, genocide possibly, mass murder possibly, etc...

Erm...when do leaders in power get any critical decisions right? Just look at all the mess in the world.
