Someone else asked whether if gender determines which sideof the bed we sleep but I think it is who is closest to the door so that the guy can
a) defend against intruders
b) go to the loo quicker as we drink more alcohol!!!!

I've been married for 15+ years now (I am a female) and I've always slept closest to the door. It's easier for me to go in and out of the room for the kids.
Plus if an intruder broke in I'd be the one to chase him away....my hubby can sleep thru anything. He'd wake up the next morning and I'd have to tell him all about the intruder!

I tend to sleep on the side that has the best vantage point in case an intruder were to enter the room uninvited; that is to say, if the woman were in a position that put her closer, it's only because I can shove her off the bed and get to my best defensive posture before the opponent can reach either of us...

Wife is closest to the door.
(1) Closer to the bathroom.
(2) wrong side of the bed

Actually, its just a case of where the person feels comfortable. To me, it doesn't matter, but my wife prefers the left side so I wind up on the right, which, by the way, is farthest from the door.

My husband sleeps on the right - no matter where the door is. In our current home, that just so happens to be closer to the door.

I answered the other question and saw your response, so here's mine. I always sleep nearest the door. My girlf thinks its a male protective thing. (Maybe I'm just looking for escape!!)

That's funny! I think sides should be based on the positions you sleep in.... Some guys are pansies, if an intruder comes in, they'll push their girl in front of them...

boyfriend sleeps nearest to the door no matter where we are, think its just cuz he wont be squashed up against the wall though!!

If an intruder came in, I'd be swinging my wife at them anyway. Best to create that buffer zone.
