I'm guessing there is a special reason you can't keep it in the garage now. If you can, I would. It depends on how much he is using it. If it's a cup or some paper or just a little trash, I'd say it's no big deal, but if he's bringing out trash bags and such, I'd say something. That's your trash can for your trash, not his.

I don't think you're being petty. What if he's putting something illegal in there? If there's ever an investigation and your trash contains contraband, you'll be in trouble.
Maybe I'm letting my suspicious imagination get the best of me, but he shouldn't assume he can use your can. Thing is, people can't read minds, so if you've never told him you prefer he not use it, he'll assume you don't mind. In a firm but kind way, tell him that you'll be needing all the space in your garbage can and you'd appreciate if he not use it. Or, you could take the trash he's throwing in there and put it back on his front step; that wouldn't do much for a good neighborly relationship, though. :)

If it is truly bothering you and you can't just ignore it, don't let it stand between you two, or it will further deteriote your "neighborship." Be polite about it, but ask him not to put his garbage in your can. Make it clear that you aren't angry but you need the can for your own use. Say it's because summer is coming and you are planning on doing alot of yardwork and need all the space you can get for your trash. I hope this helps.

I would say no. You are paying for your trash pick-up, not him. If he continues to do this I would give him a bill. After that see if continues to use it. I bet he won't. I am speaking from personal experience. My neighbors used my trash can because they were too cheap to get their own trash service. Well, I was mad so I went and taped a bill to their door for $240.00. That adds up to a year of trash service cut in half. They didn't appreciate it. It stopped immediately.

Do you pay for trash collection? Either way I would mail him a bill, either to help cover the cost of your trash collection or to provide gas money when you have to drive the trash to the dump or landfill.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless he makes it too full or too heavy. If he did then I'd probably say something or put it away so he can't use it.

No. That is your can. If he wants to use it, then he should bring it out. I would move it
