Well Bill,
first of all--self diagnosis is not a very good idea for someone who readily admits to BEING depressed !! Because, the very idea that you believe yourself to BE depressed is measure enough to call your judgement factors into question !! Add to this the FACT that there are many stages OF depression and that at least three of those stages are DEADLY -- and you have a thing here that runs the absolute risk of costing you your life and not just how you feel about your "work attitude" of late !!!
So, that said-- you need to make an appointment with and talk to a doctor here , dude !! There are ways, once a QUALIFIED decision is made on the actual thing going on here is made, that they can get you back to the "you" that was "working" in a whole lot better frame of mind !!
One added note here--- if this is the beginnings of an actual bout with "clinical" depression--- this "fight back" thing isn't going to work for you here--- you will definately loose -- because without qualified help--- it is going to be MUCH tougher that YOU are---no matter HOW tough you are !!!

Lots of daylight, sun when you can get it, bright lights in the home and office.
Healthy diet as though you were being treated for type 2 diabetis.
If you drink alcohol, stop. Take Milk Thistle with each main meal to a total of 350-500mg per day.
Learn how to leave work back in the office.
If suffering from stress then a vitamin B complex tablet daily could help.
Drink plenty of water and exercise daily, preferably about an hour a day. You'll be a new person in a week. Good luck.

Yay! There is still hope for you. You still like R&B. That's a start. Fighting depression really is a battle, and you have to use every resource available to you. Talk therapy is a good first step, especially if it doesn't run in your family. Talking to your doctor is another option, at the very least to discuss options about medication. Once depression overtakes your everyday life, and you find it is inhibiting your ability to live your life normally, talking to your doctor is a really helpful thing. MSN has a great message board about depression, and internet chat rooms can be helpful as well.

Not everyone who experiences a bout with depression will have it again. But without some sort of intervention, it won't just "go away."

IF YOU HAVE SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, see your doctor immediately. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Good luck my friend.

I was in postpartum depression for 2 yrs 6 mo, which also cause me insomnia. I slept 3 to 5 hours a night. I just had a feeling like nothing in the world made sense. I didn't enjoy life anymore. I tried sleeping pills, got me worst. I tried anti-depressants it only lasted a few hours. I was getting worst and one night I hurt myself. Asked God to help me and forgive me! To help this negative feeling away and show me how to enjoy life once again. I wasn't a Christian at the time, but a dear friend of mine had given me a Bible as a gift in 2000. Faith saved my life, got me out of depression. I would read the Bible daily and had family pictures of my family and keep them in the Bible. Now I feel happy and I'm thank full because now I see that God has been so good to be. He has given me many blessing. Doctor's will give you medicines but only GOD can truly cure you, give you straight and your hearts desires.

When I went through periods of depression in the past, I would go to the bookshop to read self help and self improvement books. I tend to feel much better after that.

Or you can try a technique known as EFT (emotional freedom technique) to identify and remove your emotional hangups about certain issues. Maybe that would help you be less depressed.

Therapy, medications, exercise, light therapy, multi vitamins, close core group that you feel comfortable discussing your feelings with, stay busy, change parts of your diet, continue to do the healthy activities that you do that still make you happy (loud r&b), find new activities that interest you, alcohol and drug can and will make depression worse--so try to stay away from them. Hope that some of these helped and good luck.

Having fought depression all of my life, and finally having the upper hand... I think that by being able to identify it outside of your person is the first healthy step.
I believe that anytime darkness attempts to cover a person, that by doing something positive like listening to jammin' music, or taking a walk, or watching a funny movie (or for me- counting things I have to be thankful for) - shifts the darkness, then it begins to dissipate....

good luck & bless

continue to persue music since it still make you happy. Get a hobby that evolves around music so you can busy yourself with it when you get depressed.
