I just put a relatively decent answer down for a question later revealed to have been asked by a troll.

Okay, I've done my share of troll questioning (like I asked if "Ye shall know them by their fruits" was a reference to Ted Haggard) and I still think some troll questions are really pretty funny - including the one I answered (asking why Allah uses virgins as call girls). But I also kind of feel bad for the people who don't see the humor and who put a lot of time and effort into answering these questions. A good troll question, though, gives you a good laugh and makes you think. Isn't answering trolls just a good way to refine your own arguments?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Carl S - I guess my point is basically that facetious question - either by an actual troll or by contributors like you and I - are a good thing. I was just wondering if others agreed with me, and if not, why not. The word "troll" is generally cast about as an insult, but it seems like many of us enjoy them anyway.

Edit again - Carl, I read " I *don't* know where you're coming from"

LOL... note to self: learn to read!

I am for trolls. some are funny, and the annoying ones tend to polarise the crowd (in effect making them forget their underlying differences to band together and kick the troll).

There are times I just do not want to deal with the trolls.
There are times I find a refreshing camaraderie when the particularly abusive ones are ousted per group conscience and group action.
There are times I work as you do and refine my answer.
Once in a blue moon I laugh at the troll-ocity of some of the questions.
And plenty of times I just groaned inwardly and go to another section... or do something really productive with my time like clean my fingernails (ha ha). Until they are gone.

It doesn't bother me. This site is full of ambiguity. Polls and Surveys is a Category for trolls. But I wouldn't know a troll if one bit me. Aren't all questions meant to solicit answers??

I know where you're coming from. I ask a lot of facetious questions and a lot of questions that are obviously ridiculous to make a point. The majority of answers are often serious or miss said point completely.

Tell them as nicely as you can that they are being a troll (maybe they don't know.)
