What is the point?? Do they not realise that the only winners in gambling are the casino's/beting agents! Furthermore, it is not as if they need any more money!! Take for example the late George Best - he was worth millions and died with hardly a penny to his name because of his gambling addiction (and drink problem). These people are so silly!!

People like this have money to burn. They are just getting all kinds of money thrown at them all the time, not just their pay but lucrative sponsorship deals, personal appearance fees etc. The good ones have so much money coming their way it means nothing to drop a few hundred thousand in an evening of gambling.

When someone rich like this shows up at a casino they are treated like VIPs. They get free food, free suites, free shows, free alcohol. They will wine and dine people like this, hoping for a chance to take their money. So it isn't just about the gambling it is this fabulous red carpet treatment and all the other fun that goes on. When some casino sends a limo to your door, takes you in a private plane to the casino, checks you into a suite for free, it's a great feeling.

The celebrity in question couldn't care less if he wins or loses because he is having fun. If he loses a hundred grand, there is plenty more where that came from.

Unfortunately as you pointed out, celebrities are just as susceptible to problems as anyone else. Some people will just get hooked on the thrill of the win. Sure, they don't need the money, but everyone likes that feeling when they win something. So some people will get hooked on drinking, gambling, drugs, sex, and many other vices. Often these sports personalities are not the smartest people in the world either. They don't necessarily plan for the future. They money keeps rolling in, they keep spending it. On day the money dries up and they have nothing set aside for a rainy day.

It's easy to sit there and be cynical about these people, but some of them are so very young when they get signed, and the people around them encourage them to party and squander money. They make costly financial mistakes they may one day regret. I think calling them silly is a little unfair. Frankly, it is hard to imagine this kind of life style unless you've lived it.

The more money you have, the more you spent (or waste). The more you have, the more you want. Simple as that. They can rather donate the money that they waste in the casinos to charities or any other community service activities. Do you know how little money you really need to make a decent living?

Well, most of them are young and impressionable and they have LOTS of money available to them. They probably have time spent doing nothing while not in training too and go out as a group so if one is into it, others could be encouraged to. It's up to them, they aren't hurting anyone other than themselves if they spend it all. Leave them to it I say...

They get caught up in it because they have the money to do it. It's fun at first, then it becomes an addiction.
