Hi, this may seem outlandish to some but if u can answer it would b greatly appreciated (without any judgemental comments pls :)
Basically I eat dates and thats it, dates and water.Sometimes though Ill eat just dried fruits. I seem 2 lose weight like this (not intentional). I just have this thing from way back where i can only have a main food to eat and survive on that give or take a few allowances now and again. Does anyone else do this? What have u found happens? Is it ok to survive on dates - gives me diarrhea but thats all good cos i used to suffer from constipation.I dont know why im obsessed with dates its just that i have to have it and i cant/wont have normal meals or normal food.Sometimes id mix condiments and eat that. Sometimes i go months eating just hot bran cereal in the evening. Or just hot chocolate for weeks. My food habits are odd but anyway...dates. Any input?

Well, I would recommend taking a good multi vitamin along with your food and water. I think that everyone goes through "stages" to different extents. I know that I will go for a couple of months at a time where I need pop tarts everyday and then I get to where I cant stand them and eat canned fruit every day for a couple of months--sometimes with mine it has to do with the weather or different stressors that are happening in my life. I work in the mental health field with a lot of individuals with schizophrenia and I have a couple of clients that really stood out to me in you story---she for the last seven months has only eaten chicken noodle soup and a banana for breakfast and ramen noodles for lunch. When we have asked her if she would like something different she has said that she likes what she is eating---it is something that she is comfortable with, so because she isn't getting all of the nutrients she needs she does take a daily multivitamin, and is perfectly healthy. So, eat what you chose to eat---to each their own--and try to take a multi vit---it will help balance your overall health.

You should look into obsessive compulsive disorder. It isn't just washing your hands madly. You had a problem and found a fix for it, but sub-consiously you may be worried about the problem returning.
Or is could be something real simple, like you are a really fussy eater.

Either way you should see a councellor.

My husband always said he wished he could get his daily food intake with a pill, which perplexed me because he's Italian!!!!

A lot of people "eat to live" rather than "live to eat." But when your food choices (or lack of choices) interfere with your body's ability to function or grow or repair itself, major problems can result. The sheer volume of vitamins and nutrients you are missing out on with your food choices is cause for alarm.

Have you spoken with your doc or a health care professional? Please do not be offended, but you could be experiencing an obsessive disorder or an eating disorder. "Disorder" really just refers to how your brain processes things. If you care to look into it furher, it's worth making an appointment, even if just with a nutritionist.

I don't think you are crazy or weird at all! But looking into why your body and mind aren't responding to your body's need for proper nourishment is worth it!

You might have an eating disorder. I hope you can talk to a medical doctor and get a referral to a dietitian. You might be in danger of nutritional deficiencies--all kinds of problems could develop from that.

you are not getting all the nutrition you need when you eat just one thing. maybe you should add vitamins if you just cant eat anything else.
