Plain and simple... if it's more than the prescribed dose, it's and overdose.
It does not necessarily have to be enough to kill you to be considered an overdose - although if you take enough, Morphine will kill your respiratory drive and you will die without assistance.

This is a pretty general question but I will answer it as a nurse and I hope it helps....
First of all anything taken in a large amount can overdose anyone...there are a lot of things to consider...
First of all, does this person have a drug tolerance of any kind? What is the person's weight? Are there any underlying medical conditions? See, all of these things need to be considered..
As a rule of thumb, where I work as a nurse, we never give morphine if the respirations of the individual are less than 12 breaths per minute.
Morphine lowers the respirations and can stop a person from breathing all together.
I hope this helps

when it slows your resperations down to under 14 per minute. your heart stops. you stop breathing. They put a toe tag on you they cover you with a sheet. Morphine is easy to overdose and you can do it without realising it,
A lot of people have accidently never woke up!

It's not the amount of milligrams, it's the effect on the body. A person w/ chronic pain can often tolerate large doses; getting it for acute pain would be a small dose.
