I don't think that you recieve the Holy Ghost by merely speaking in tongues. I think that you recieve it when you are baptized in Jesus' name. Also I can't find the answer in the Bible so does someone know an exact verus that answers this question. (The Bible is the best source for this answer, not opinions).

By believing in Christ, you automatically receive the Holy Spirit... and at that point it is up to you to use it and allow it to minister to you (but when you sin, you are out of fellowship with the holy spirit so, in order to get back in fellowship you must name and site your sins to God in Jesus name)
The Holy Spirit was given to us at the time of salvation.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:14

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation.

I agree you can get the holy ghost by just believing in god and worshiping him. I also believe though that if you are not afraid of the unknown and you want the gift of speaking in tongue you will recieve this from god. I myself i have experienced speaking in tongues. You don't understand a word that is comming out but you are praising the lord

I have been at church and have had visitors from the east come over and be listening to the people speaking in tongues and start to take down notes of what they are saying. After he asked them man who was speaking in tongue.. i never knew you could speak hebrew. The man replied and said i have never spoken hebrew in my life.. and the other man told him that the whole time he was speaking in tongues he was praising the lord and telling everyone they should be baptised in the name of jesus christ.

sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them." (Acts 2:3-4)

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Acts 10:44-48

Hi TaurusGreen. I see that you allow e-mail. I would like to send you a study that contains Bible verses on the Holy Spirit. I agree with you. You do not receive the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues like the way the Pentecostals believe.

With regard to baptism, there are two baptisms. There is the water baptism which John the Baptist performed and then there's the baptism of the Holy Spirit which Jesus spoke of. I would like to send you the Bible verses to this topic also.

Please give me about a couple of days to get it to you.

Thanks!

Acts 2:38
Peter said to them, " Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Please notice that the verses below shows that Faith alone does not save. Baptism IS a requirement.

"The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" 1 Peter 3:21

Peter said to them, " Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." James 2 17-24

Notice the middle part of the last few verses.....the devils also believe, and tremble. If belief and faith were the only requirements, the devils would be saved.

You must follow ALL of God's commandments, you cannot pick and choose the one's you agree with.
