To make money. Okay, not always, there are some great anthropological books that can give you background on the culture in those times and other books that have good stuff on geography that help you to understand some of the obscure parts. But most of the rest seem to be application guides and rather redundant at that. But I guess everybody has their favorite preacher.

Hello, David:

"Whoever said that "everything" is found in the Bible is misguided. For example, even though those like Moses, Jeremiah and Jesus were in Egypt, there is no mention of the pyramids.

Likewise, although women are necessary for procreation, the Bible does not list the names of most "mothers" in Jesus lineage.

Also, the Buble does not tell you the reason why the mystical numbers seven and 40 appear repeatedly--yet that does not annun the Divine origion and authorship--yet you can know.

Perhaps you have read of the computerized Bible code--it talks about McVeigh destroying the Murrah building, or Yatzar Rabin's assassination, even giving the dates of the events in advance. However, that "equal skip" code does not prove Jesus is the Messiah.

Why? Because you need no computer code to prove Jesus' validity and mission--many intelligent people who take time to read the Bible study these. And that takes us back to your question. Actually the Bible is a story about God's attempt to salvage His rebelluous planet. And He has put one more code in it--one last chance for last-day skeptics.

The only part of the Bible that says you will not be able to understand it until "the end of the days" is revealed online at www.revelado.org/revealed.htm. It will show you the hidden "key" to break the code.

One more thing, David. Those who do not compare history and the Bible prophecies are not aware that militant attacks by Mohammedanisms was described in advance. The site for that is www.revelado.org/islam.htm. You will be amazed!!

Blessings and peace, One-Way

The bible is the only book that expresses God feelings, his true qualities, and what he likes and detests BUT also the bible is a manual to How God thinks and should be taken by us as individuals as a book of instruction that still has meaning in today's world (2 timothy 3:16) Although there are other books out there the only book that describes God is his word the bible ....nothing will ever come close to those who truly are seeking him!!

Oh, please...don't encourage them in that direction!

I once worked around a couple of guys that were fervent "born-again" Christians, and although neither of them was what you'd call a "bad person," they just seemed to lose touch with all reality. It was like watching a person with an addiction. All they wanted to do was have prayer meetings and scripture-related discussions.

I am a student of literature, and within the books of man, there are many classic works that have stood the test of time, which include valuable ideas and philosophies.

These two guys I spoke of got to the point that for them, there was the Bible...and then all that other "useless" writing.

I thought that was both sad and very narrow minded.

Everything is not in the Bible. I am not sure where you got that. There are general principles that you can derive things from, but for instance, the Bible doesn't say anything about smoking.

Other books exist because the Bible is big, and most people don't know it very well.

David,
This is a Great Question! I am a Non-Denominational Christian who follows ONLY the BIBLE. I agree with you that a number of Denominational Church members have their own MAN-MADE IDEAs added to GOD's. That is their choice to be important in this world as the Pharisees were in Christ's time. We do not do this where I worship. We believe that the Bible is where all of the answers are found. If anyone questions what we are doing then we take a look with them to the scriptures and decide what is right in the sight of GOD. HIS WORD is the answer!! Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

most religions claim to be the one true way to god, even though they are all reading out of the same book (or similar ones) well, truth is defined as this;
1. the true or actual state of a matter: He tried to find out the truth.
2. conformity with fact or reality; verity: the truth of a statement.
3. a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like: mathematical truths.
4. the state or character of being true.
5. actuality or actual existence.
6. an obvious or accepted fact; truism; platitude.
7. honesty; integrity; truthfulness.
8. (often initial capital letter) ideal or fundamental reality apart from and transcending perceived experience: the basic truths of life.
9. agreement with a standard or original.
10. accuracy, as of position or adjustment.
11. Archaic. fidelity or constancy.
—Idiom12. in truth, in reality; in fact; actually: In truth, moral decay hastened the decline of the Roman Empire.
most definitions use the word "actual". well, that being the case, we don't know what is really true when it comes to religion. therefore, maybe we shouldn't put so much faith in something that is not "true"

With short sighted and ignorant questions like this, how did you become a top contributor?

The Bible is what it claims to be. An historical account of the nation Israel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. A guide for our interaction with God. Nothing more.

It is not a text book. That's why there are text books.

It is not a work of fiction, that is why there is "The Davinci Code".

It is not an instruction manual.

It is not an encyclopedia.

It is not a dictionary.

Wow, this was the lamest question I have ever read regarding the Bible.

Perhaps they like to keep the fun in fundamental! The Bible is the complete word of God, but even a fundalmentalist can have other interests.

Are you talking about study helps and reference books? I have no idea, perhaps they want others opinions on what they've read in the Bible :)
