My husband has already served a tour in Iraq and is now in Afghanistan. I have heard people say that they support our troops because they are just doing their jobs, but that they are opposed to the war.
Everybody is screaming pull out! pull out! But my hubby says that if we do that the country will be left in shambles...as usual we only hear the bad stuff. There is so much good going on over there but the media edits it out of their broadcasts. The media is responsible in my opinion for causing so many ill feelings against the war.
Believe me, I wish my hubby wasn't in harms way living in a country where he has no access to everyday things that we take for granted. However, that is the job he chose to do so I support him and his fellow soldiers 100%!

I am openly against the war and have been from the very beginning. It did not feel right from the very beginning and I always doubted if Iraq had anything to do with 9-11 and if he had any of the weapons that Bush said they did. I did feel we needed a presence in the middle east but that was accomplished with us being in Aganistan. Which to me is the real front lines on the war on terror. While I agree we maybe doing some good there but "no" I do not feel it has been worth the loss of close to 3300 men and women. I have a lot of friends who feel the same and some are Vietnam vets.
While I maintain my stance against the war I have been very supportive of our troops and through finicial contributions and prayer which is all I can do.

It's not about Bush or being liked. They are serving their country wether right or wrong. I work in Iraq and am sending this email right now to you from Basrah. I have met many fine men and women here in my 27 months and I am proud to serve them every day. Many Iraqis truly care and like our soldiers and even Americans. But like all people who don't really know the other they are easily influenced by public misinformation. Bottom line if people don't want our soldiers overseas or in conflicts they (people) need to be responsible (take control) of their country. That means limiting what countries who we buy and sell to and changing our life style to effect change.
I must say that any human life lost and especially our troops is tragic and a horrible loss. To those families that morn my heart and prayers go out to them and they are (as all Americans) entitled to their own personal opinion of this matter. Their blood has been spilled and shed in this conflict.
That said,
I would bet many of the anti war or anti soldier protesters wouldn't be willing to give up their suv's.
The people who are protesting our Soldiers are very confused folks who have no idea what "freedom isn't free" and the great responsibility democracy comes with. Look at our history it's not pretty but it's us and we are free to learn and succeed and worship how we see fit.
The U.S Servicemen and women are doing what is asked of them and doing it well.HOOHA! Don't be concerned with other's opinion of your child's profession. People were against Christ too. Be proud of your child!

First of all, let me offer a sincere thank you to your son. Although I am not in favor with the war, I too find it offensive when those with extremist positions spout out alienating and hurtful opinions about the war. I personally feel that the troops have gotten a raw deal in Iraq - insufficient troop levels, inadequate equipment, substandard medical care and horrendously low wages. The troops unfortunately our caught between the lessor of two evils. There are those that would have us all but surrender and those that would have us occupy for whatever length of time. I think the average American, whether pro- war or anti- war or just somewhere in the middle, feels unheard. I certainly do and that is my main frustration I know longer feel like my opinion counts in my own country. I also think that when people feel unheard or isolated they grow angry and gradually increase their opinion so that it becomes completely one sided. Thank you for reminding us all that no matter how we feel about the war that it is someone's son or daughter caught in the middle.

I'm not sure I really agree with the US being in Iraq.........but that's another story................however I support out troops 150%. I know that they have loved ones and family at home and its hard to be away!! Anyone who can put their personal things aside to support this country deserves it all!!!!!!! It's not their fault this is all going on! But they are stepping up to the plate and taking the responsibility to do their jobs!!! As a hairstylist I love my job. however I'm not so sure I could lay it on the line like our troops do!!!!! It's people like your son who enable people like us to say good/bad/ugly about Bush/government and anything else we like to complain about! This is why I live in America................and not someplace else!
I hope your son stay safe! There are lots of people who support what he is doing, dont let the others get you down!!!! yes we are all entitled to our own opinions, this IS america but we dont have to listen to the stuff we dont want to hear!! Thanks to your son!!!! God bless you and your family!
I read all of the answers and cried!!! Im glad to know we can seperate out feelings of the war and the troops!!! such support in a time of such anger towards the war!! I would hate to see hwat happened to the veitnam vets happen to the iraqi freedom vets, I think we are far to educated now to stoop to that level! I hope that is why we are taught history!!!

Do you remember what happened to our troops when they returned from vietnam? I think Bush is a retarded monkey, no offense to monkeys or people with disabilities. I used to be a soldier, I never got to see any of this, and I'm glad for that. But people need to realize we as Americans have freedom of speech, because our troops protect that. So while they are entitled to their opinions, do the crazies realize who keeps them safe to have that opinion? Good luck to your son and I hope he returns home safely.

My nephew (who isn't black by ability of ways considering that race is SO major to the neocons) informed me that he had to wrestle to get a chance to work out Senator Obama. opposite to the substitute postings in this board, Obama is amazingly very effortless between the infantrymen who do not ought to kiss-as a lot because the get at the same time in potential. He also suggested that the military photographers pulled white human beings out of the gang in the back of the Senator so there is more beneficial colored human beings in the history. He replaced into uncertain why that replaced into finished or who orderedit if all and numerous. I informed him about different college-youngster stuff tha is going on on Yahoo Answrs and he prolonged an invitationto all those sufficiently old to fulfill up and are available over there and note for themselves basically what is going on as adverse to what the Republi-cons say is going on.

No, people just hate the President. I applaud your son and you should be proud of him and his decision. Let's face it - war is ugly and nobody likes war (nobody over here anyway), but from time to time we have to do it. I'm a former soldier myself and almost went to the Gulf in the 90's. I'd protect your son the way he'd protect me. I'd carry him to safety the way he'd carry me. I'd cry for him the same way he'd cry for me. And we don't need to know each other. I trust he'll be behind me if I ever needed him, and that is something YOU gave him.
It takes a special kind of person to do what we do, to take a bullet for someone you never met, to keep his family safe and warm, no matter the cost. We do what our Commander in Chief tells us to do no matter who it is, or what the reason, because that's what we do!! We put him/her there for a reason, and we trust that person with our lives. It's a type of brother/sister hood that most don't understand, and most never will unless they've been there. It's a certain something we're born with, or had instilled upon us by our parents, to have pride, courage, the desire to be free, and to protect those that need us so that they may be free. We love our God, we're proud of our country, we honor our family, but never, never, ever, are we proud of ourselves, nor will we ever consider ourselves heros. We do what we do because of who we are, and that's all anybody needs to know.
