The best cure for fighting loneliness is helping other people. It makes you feel important and worthy.
If you're not that type, just spend more time with your friends or go out more and make yourself available to the "market"

Stay busy, go see friends, go to the library, go help out at the red cross. Don't spend to much time at any one place. Busy works, trust me. Look for happy people and places, stay away from sad people and places. Movies are a good way to kill time, again be carefull, stay away from sad. Action movies are cool. Plan a wonderful vacation, look at all the hotels, flights, etc. All the info is free, and you can get a ton of free info in the mail and on the internet.

Take some time out just for you. Do something that you like or something that you have always wanted to do. The most important thing to focus on now is what makes you happy. Even something simple like getting a massage or pedicure will help as it is a great stress reliever and will take your mind off of things. You could even find a new hobby.

Go out with old friends, meet new people, join a group! There's so much to do out there!... Here's the tip... make sure when you get home every night, you're dead tired to even think of anything else but SLEEP!

Just be with your friends and family. Watch some happy movies and know that the loneliness will pass and life will be great.
