Pure Henna will not change white hair to brown. It will change them to orange. There are some henna powders that contain other plants and metallic oxides that are other colors, but they aren't pure henna.
Pure henna is safe, the others could contain lead or other metal oxides that would also have a bad chemical reaction if in the future you decide to have a chemical service of some kind done to your hair.

I've been using henna for over 2 years. I don't have white hair but I'm pretty sure you can dye it any color you want. I do dye mine red but I buy red henna. It is true that if you try and chemically dye over henna it won't take. But I have heard ( but never tried) that if you put boiled mineral oil in your henna dyed hair that it will take it out. I think that henna is a great alternative to chemical treatments. It makes your hair very soft and shinny! If you want a wide veriety of colors you can check out rainbow henna. Thats all I've ever used! Go to http://www.rainbowresearch.com/html/henna.htm
Well I hope this helps and I'm sure it will turn out beautiful! Good Luck!

Henna causes hair to turn red, not brown. I'd suggest that you use a color that is made for covering grays. Also, if you put the henna in & don't like it, it will cause you alot of problems, as most hair color you cannot put on hair that has henna in it.

Sorry yet Henna won't lighten black hair to brown. Henna is a plant stain, it could in basic terms upload a translucent (or see by using) shade on your contemporary coloration. in case you henna over black hair you will see no genuine effects indoors yet might even see the henna glow exterior in bright sunlight. To get brown hair you will might desire to bleach it - or use a 'extreme bring up" or lightening everlasting shade. in case you opt for that technique, i might propose a medium mild "ash" coloration to counteract the orange coloration that needless to say occurs while lightening very darkish hair.
