of Christians I have encountered, so patronizing and uncharitable? The vitriol and hatred they spout makes me pity them. The exceptions who have a good heart have been few and far between.

I find it amusing when respondents start with the 'Are you trying to say' thing, I'm articulate, strong and confident, If I wanted to say what they suggest I'd just say it, If you answer this question try and stick with it instead of deviating by assuming things about me please

You should just repeat this to them:
'Sell EVERYTHING you have. And give to the poor.'

I think that everyone is an indivdual and unique, so maybe you have just been unlucky in meeting the patronizing and uncharitable ones! That must of been an unpleasant experience to meet people who have hatred in them like this, perhaps they use their religion as a cover up to hide their 'true self'. I think that even though you may have met alot of people like this who are Christians, it does not mean that the majority of Christians are like this, as a true Christian would not be acting in this way as they would have God in their life, which would influence them to live life with their heart as well as their head!

Human nature... They can't do anything about it. We're just animals afterall, and some moreso than others.
But I have found that where christians in particular are concerned.... there is a negative correlation between intelligence and religious zeal. The most intelligent people are generally not theists at all..... moderately intelligent folks you'd not realise were christian as they don't make a big thing of it at all.... typically unintelligent folks will occasionally make religious references...... and then you have the completely brain-dead fvcktards who preach in the streets that we're all going to hell.
Now correlate that with the fact that the less intelligent a person is, the more they will rely on instict in any given situation.... and you have your answer.

being a Christian is one of the hardest things to do especially in this world where so many live for satan. I'm the only Christian in my family and at every function they drink alcohol. I will not go around it or let my kids and they see it as me hating on them. Which couldn't be any further from the truth. So just because some Christians come off to you that way doesn't really mean that's their intent. I'm sure some who call them self a Christian truly aren't, but who am I to judge anyones heart. God bless

If you believe in the bible, Jesus defined his people as "whosoever" believed in him. That means there is no litmus test for good and bad people to become Christians. This is why there are people who are crappy who are still Christian.
Oh, sure, you'll get Christians who'll say that if a Christian acts in a way they don't like they are "not true Christians," but that's just the old "No true Scotsman" fallacy-it's not logically sound, especially when you have such a broad definition given in their sacred works by their god.

I know what you mean but just like with everything else there are good and bad people, rarely any good. Try not to generalize every religious person based on a couple of rude ones. Remember, the good people usually keep their mouths shut an worry about sweeping their own step before saying anything to you about your lifestyle. The bad ones preach and preach until the cows come home then go to back to their un-Godly lifestyle.

That's odd. I'm an atheist-I have been for over 30 years-and I can't think of a single instance where I've met a Christian such as you describe, except for in this forum.
Mine is the only atheist family in the small town where I reside, and on numerous occasions the church has come to our rescue without ever being asked. I'm a single mom with a chronic illness, and they've helped me out more than once. I've only ever experienced their kindness.

I would say that they are patronizing and uncharitable because they take their spirituality to a dark place within themselves. And its unfortunate, but some churches actually encourage this.

I haven't seen what you are saying to be true. In fact, the only redeeming value of believing in a murderous deity seems to be the great value that a small Church can do for a community. Now once you bring in big dollars, I see the benefit as being greatly reduced. Those smarmy televangelists need to be stopped within their own religious community. But as for the general christian, they are good peeps, regardless of their closed mind to logic and history.

Oh come now, they can't all be that bad now can they? Maybe you've seen a rough one every now and then, maybe every day, but you can't just throw in the towel and assume everyone is evil.
