Will she accept a new mate? Her mate died of some mystery illness a couple of weeks ago (she's fine), and her incessant squawking for him is starting to make me think about sage and onion. I would rather make her happy again. They did have rather an active sex life and she did pester him rather when he was really ill at the end.

And any ideas where I can find a single male lovebird about 6 years old? In NE England.

Thanks.

Yes she will accept a new mate. For birds age doesn't matter. Just get a male bird and they will bond. Promise.

You may try to introduce her to another mate, but sometimes they mate for life. Until you find someone she takes too, if you were close to her she will demand a lot of attention from you. And so she does not fall into a depression you should spend as much time as possible with her. Hope you find that mate! Ask around pet stores if they get mature lovebirds in stock.

You can try to introduce a new mate to your lovebird. There are no guarantees that she will accept him though. Be prepared to house the suitor in his own cage for the rest of his life if she rejects him. It is not necessary to have a 6 year old bird to match yours. Any age will do.

You can try this website:http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/bpreown.htm

or any pet store that sells lovebirds will do. Just remember, if you buy a hand fed bird, you will need to give it lots of attention.

Lovebirds do not need to be paired, that is a myth. They are called lovebirds for their affectionate ways with people. If you want another bird get one but it's not neccasary unless for your mind if she is driving you crazy with her squaking.

you can go to the pet shop and get an artificial one and see how she reacts to it before buying another one..as I have heard that they pair for life
