The last time I remember a friend of mine being cained at school by the headmistress was in 1987.

i know for a fact that it was sometime during the early / mid 80's... caning was still allowed when i was about 8 or 9 years old, as a boy from my class got caned for killing one of the school pets.... but i'm pretty sure that caning was banned very shortly afterwards - so that would make it about '84 or '85.

I'm sure i remember people still getting caned at my school before I left, which would have been around 1988

It stopped in my old school the year I left, in 1979. Personally, I think they should bring it back, Kids these days have NO respect, and NO discipline for anyone and anything anymore.
