I have noticed this. If you drink too much of it, you feel AWFUL , but if you drink moderate amounts, you wake up feeling relaxed and refreshed for the day.

Red wine in moderate amounts id thought to be good for your blood cells which keep the body going. If you have too much it is because large amounts of alcohol dehydrate you and damage your liver and brain.

Red wine has many attributed health properties, including benefits for the heart and blood, along with antioxidants. Also, with the alcohol content, it acts as a "relaxant" and essentially slows brain function. People may experience a more deep sleep, which could attribute the refreshed feeling you speak of. However, it is not a good idea to drink right before sleeping because it takes a great deal of energy to properly process alcohol, and if you go right to sleep, you body immediately converts it to fats. Try to drink your wine a lightly clean the kitchen or vacuum...to burn off the calories.

A moderate amount of alcohol taken as red wine before retiring to bed, can act as a soporific, and allow a deeper nights' sleep. Then, perhaps you will feel more refreshed in the morning. However, a litre of water drunk before midday, will help cleanse the liver and kidneys, and make you feel even better!
Drinking an excess of red wine can produce headaches and tiredness. This is due to both to the amount of alcohol consumed, plus the presence of certain natural chemicals in the wine.
