When in general daily contact, does sudden "no contact" work and how long should you hold out if so?

No contact shouldn't be used as a punishment. It's a very effective tool to end the relationship. If you want to make a statement or have a problem, say something. If you want to drive the other person into seeking out others and leaving you alone completely, then you're right on target. I've seen it happen many times before.

Hello, yes it works big time. I have not talked with my X in awhile and I don't plan on it until I am strong enough I was with him for a bout 7 years. When you talk to an X before you are strong enough and have your mind made up completely, it never works because they say things that they know you want to hear and try and win you back so just keep doing what your doing until you know you can talk to him/her without giving in and being able to stand your total ground with him/her.
I have also had to do this years back as well with the father of my children and I just ignored his calls and didn't even listen to the messages because we were together for 11 years and I had my mind made up so many times that it was over but he always charmed his way back into my heart but then one day I just had enough and when I left not once did I call him or let him have anyway of contacting me, it took me about 2 years before I could ever talk to him without any feelings still hanging. I talk to him all the time now and we get along like never before. He has a girlfriend and still throws in flirty comments when he talks to me but I just laugh about it because he had his chance and he lost the best dam girl he could of ever had but you have to know that you are strong enough before you even go near your X.

I think playing games is stupid. The best way to make your ex jealous is to enjoy life. Go out with your friends, flirt with other guys. Let him think you are fine without him.... that's when he'll miss you and think twice. Be nice to him, say Hi, but treat him as if he is someone in the hallway. Giggle with your friends and be happy. That's the best way to get back with and at an ex.

Don't play games, but don't smother the other person. Less contact with higher quality is better than constant meaningless contact.
