How can you possibly justify banning contraception when an entire continent is ravaged by starvation and HIV and innocents being born into a life of pain and suffering, all of which would be reduced by a Johnny. How do you justify your faith?

Mia...... My whole family was bought up catholic , very strictly, my 2 brothers turned out gay and my sister also, my parents would thow holy water at them in their teen age years while I sat back and watched feeling helpless and comming to my own conclusion about religion. The Catholic religion is so staunch its almost impossible to live by. You are right about contreception, You would think that its laws would have changed with the times but.......... I find I have no religion now as if I did I would not be able to enjoy the relationship I have with my siblings and they have with my children without prejiduce. Religion to me has a lot to answer for especially the catholic religion. There is NO justification

You been in Africa too long. I know they have Catholic churches in Africa since my priest is from Africa. Catholics do believe in contraception. That movement was in the 70's honey. But a lot of catholics in Africa are traditional catholics. But where the biggest Aids and starvation problems are in Africa don't have a lot of Christan influence or are so poor and cannot afford the Pill or Condoms. Maybe Christan's should go in Africa and say hey you got problems with a STD and starvation we give you protection but that means you can't have children this will solve your problems. Yeah I see that going over real well take there freedom of choice any away. Stop blaming catholics for Africa's problems. Many Christan's are going there to do missionary work and provide health care to them. Even the catholics.

A lot of Catholics do believe in contraception, but the Church as a whole condemns it because they believe there should not be any sexual contact until marriage. But it's obviously an archaic belief. I think the more important question is how do we educate people around the world about contraception and get it in their hands? That's a much bigger struggle, I think.

Having lived in Africa for all those years, you obviously failed to notice that the Africans, by and large, are people who appreciate life and family, and aren't very attracted to birth control.

This applies to Catholic and non-Catholic Africans, alike.

And while you were in Africa, did you happen to notice that ONLY those who slept around with people other than their spouses, were the ones who got AIDS and died?

Did you also notice that the poor quality condoms that are shipped to 3rd world countries, and often warehoused in less than ideal conditions, tend to have a failure rate of up to 60 percent, leaving 6 out of 10 exposed to a deadly virus?

There's no shortage of food or land. Geo-political intrigue and genocide is the real problem.

All contraception does is cheat people out of life's greatest blessings and purest joy.

One of the most basic tenets of the Christian faith is, "The Lord will provide."

A contraceptive mentality is proof of a basic lack of faith in God, and up until relatively recent times, contraception was considered a serious sin by nearly every Christian group.

How do you justify your lack of faith, and your shortsightedness?

I can only answer your question by saying that you are just not looking at things from the Catholic point of view. Your view is that STDs can be reduced by using a condom. The Catholics say that STDs can be reduced by monogamy.

The Catholic church does condone one type of birth control, natural family planning (aka the rhythm method).

So? The other Christian sects are mostly against abortions. The Roman Catholics are just a bit more conservative in saving the life of Babies.

Of course, both of them want complete control of womens' bodies so they can expand their faithful.

I think maybe you have this all backwards. It's not respecting life that causes an entire continent to be ravaged by starvation. It's not respecting the earth, and misusing and abusing people that causes oppression and war. There is plenty for everyone when we put God's laws into effect and labor for the common good. Don't you think that killing babies is just one more aspect of their culture of death? Sex without motherhood, life without holiness or happiness? Catholicism is not the enemy of life, it is the fount of life

I took the easy way out, and married an Anglican girl. She uses contraception, I don't.
(OK it's a technical point but so what)
