Hi Stacey M!
Housetraining a puppy requires time, vigilance, patience and commitment. Following the procedures outlined below, you can minimize house soiling incidents.
Virtually every puppy will have an accident in the house (more likely several). Expect this, it's part of raising a puppy. The more consistent you are in following the basic housetraining procedures, the faster your puppy will learn acceptable behavior. It may take several weeks to housetrain your puppy, and with some of the smaller breeds, it might take longer.

I am a proud owner of an American Bulldog cross, and have had fun house training him! I was advised to keep him in a small place which makes sense if you can as a dog will not do it's business on it's bed, my pup is our months and I've also been told they don't gain full control until there an adolescent which is about 18 months in large dogs, again stick with it when he messes on purpose or not take him back to it, put his nose close to it say no firmly and put him outside for 10 minutes! it's not easy and they will test you just like kids. Good luck.

Are you trying to train your AB with paper? I have a male and when I brought him home from the breeder he was not house trained, he only went on paper. I would spend hours with him outside and the minute we walked in the house he would pee. I took all the paper away and within a few days he was much better. Also, they will have accidents for the first couple of years, especially if you are away for long periods of time. Taking your puppy out on a regular schedule also helps.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/ZdQ1J
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

You will need to register first to read but go to this link and read the post by Karen of Westwind training. I have trained many dogs with this method, including several adult rescues and have never failed, they usually get it pretty quickly.

dogs are pack animals, you must be the alpha male/female, show your dog who is boss, then your pup will stop ruling your life.
