just been given 10k by mum wondering whether i should use itso i can travel and surf around the world for a year ot two. Plus i just been dumped. or should i stay and concentrate on a career and have the burden of my ex just around the corner.

Travel...enjoy your life. The ex situation will just get worse if you don't get out of there.

Travelling the world is always a good idea - and so is working on your career - depends on how old you are also ... just remember, when you get back, your ex will still be there, so whether you're here or there, you still gotta deal with it. Travel the world because its what you want to do, not as a means of escape. good luck with your decision x

Your career should come first. At this point you are so vulnerable and if you bum around for a year, you might get into something you will regret later. Use the 10k for something more worthwhile later.

I would put half towards a trip - ok so it wouldn't be around the world trip but you could still have a great time on 5K. Why not put the other 5K in an account for a deposit on a home if you don't have one already.
