Get a good quality hairball food (I can't remember the US brands off hand, sorry) and add to her regular food. Also try adding cooking oil to her usual food. Cooked mashed pumpkin or carrot is also good for helping push through hairballs because of the fibre and many cats like a teaspoon or two of pumpkin or carrot alone or mixed into their meal, failing that, you can buy benefibre (metamucil) or one of the clear psyllium supplements that are available and add about a teaspoon to her meal.

Be sure to comb and brush her every day. Dampen your hands and run through her coat against the direction the hair lies, you will be able to remove a lot more and then comb her. If she will tolerate a bath regularly, this will help remove a lot of the hair and keep the amount she can ingest to a minimum.

Some Omega oils (specially designed for cats, I use Megacoat) will keep her coat in great condition and will help with eliminating the hairballs too.

Aw! poor kitty!, try some milk, or put it in a little fish paste. Try also kitzymes which contain yeast.
