this is a huge amount for any child to deal with, his father remarried and has 2 other children and now his mother is leaving, this is bound to cause upset, and by having an attitude, and playing truant, it sounds like he has no outlet for his feelings, and is dealing with this in his own way. you need to show him sympathy help and understanding. make time for just the 2 of you away from everything else and see if he will open up to you, find out how he is feeling, i cant help but think if you hear it from him, himself, an answer will come naturally from you, your instinct as a parent will kick in and go from there. Its natural to be worried, angry etc, but take a minute to consider how he is feeling, he has no option but to be carried along on this tidal wave of decisions being made by adults, but its obviously affecting him too. He needs you, and to know you are there for him. Good luck

Sins of the parents are pass to their children. Bet you never bond with your son in the first place and coming here for sympathy and for others to pick up the pieces.
Approach the teachers. There are professional counselors for them to refer to. The school have a reason to intervene and the child is less resistant to the counselors. Make sure they get professional counselors help and not any retired army officers acting as 'operations managers and discipline masters'.
