He needs to a) let his hair rest a bit.. too many chemicals where cause it to break into pieces and fall out.
b) get to a professional salon with a toner
and
c) wait several weeks before he dyes again and
d) use very extensive conditioner on it.
As a hair stylist, you should know, that bleach needs to stay warm and covered while it works on hair. After that bleaching, the hair needs toned which is hard to buy in a box at a drug store. If he really cares about his hair, he needs to go to a salon, but I would definitely wear a hat for now and give it a few days to let my scalp heal some before adding more chemicals to it.

hi lauren
be careful of the 8.2 as it might be a little too ashy and wont look natural. i would honestly take it back to his natural colour whether thats brown or black and then let it grow out. its a bit risky when its yellow as it actually can still go green with certain colours.
if hes dead set on staying light you could use a purlpe toner or semi.
manhatten 0/6 in wella is a good one but not sure if it will lift the colour up enough.
dont listen to people saying to give his hair a break, you're a hairdresser so judge that for yourself, if his hairs short the condition should be good, even if its bleached.
if you need more advice feel free to email me.

I know it's old fashioned, but hey so is a double process! Good old fashioned Clairol Cream Toner over the prelightened hair works well. It works very fast though and should be done at the bowl so you can take it off at the right time. It's made specifically for hair prelightened with bleach so in my experience it works well. There's Clairol Born Blonde Toner too. It does the job, but washes away so quickly.

You need a purple or blue base toner if you want to keep it the shade and just get rid of the canary. If you want to go lighter you need a haircolor either a level 8 or nine with a blue/violet base. I used to use something called a really nice professional clairol color called 'wicked blonde'. It is a gorgeous irridescent blonde. Love love love it !!! see link. Yes, I am a stylist for 25 yrs. and proficient at color !

From past experience don't put ash coloring in his hair it will make it greenish. The damage is done, I would suggest putting a another bleaching product in his hair, one with a purple tent... it should cone out platinum.
Hope this helps.

Stop damaging hair with chemical products for a while--it have to! My friend told me that a mixture of conditioner and lemon juice is great for wrong hair color like that. Why not trying it? mix a part of good conditioner with 3 part of lemon juice, keep it for an hour, then wash. this mixture will lighten ur hair, but after all ur yellow hair will turn in a natural color. keep it for a while, then try to darken ur hair again. try a natural herbs to darken ur hair, like Rosemary and Sage.

OMG I done that once and came out looking like a lightbulb!
Think you'll need to strip the hair right back and start again!
GOOD LUCK!
