My friend has written for me. What does it mean ?

The literal translation is "Good Year" and it can be used to wish someone a happy new year, or merely in the sense of "Have a nice year!!"

Happy New Year!

In France it is socially acceptable to send greetings right through the first month of the year, but this seems a bit late, unless you live where I do, where Christmas greetings cards are still trickling through at Easter!
