Living just 7 miles from the US border, I find it's the other way around. Americans have been moving over here steadily for the last 20 years or so. They come to raise their children in a more peaceful environment, and to take advantage of our health care system.
Yes, they do a lot of raving about "land of the free", but look where they choose to live!
Oh Biff - you're hilarious! ROFL Try plunking yourself and your backpack in the middle of Iraq.

I think this question is turning into a who's better contest. No country in this world has any real right to be called the greatest, no matter what piece of soil to stand on there are still problems with it. And since counties function in different ways I don't think its useful to do these comparisons. And when it comes to Canada and the U.S. if people focused more on the things that make this Continent amazing there wouldn't be need to defend are respected countries all the time on this site. As for this question each country is suitable for certain people and their professions some Americans move to Canada and some Canadians moves to America. However Canada tends to send our old people down to Florida in the winter so we don't have to hear them complain about the cold. Just joking for course.

Border safe practices is a funny tale era. even if the biggest difficulty is at the moment at our southern border. With mexico's depressed economic equipment sneaking into the U. S. is quite suitable. Canadians on the otherhand, dont have the tousled authorities and fiscal equipment that the mexicans do and for this reason have little impetus to illegally enter the U. S.. This actuality does no longer even if get rid of the opt to maintain ALL of our borders. the possibility of terrorists transferring risky supplies over both border is unacceptable, and the unlawful get admission to of overseas nationals could be stopped regardless of nationwide starting place.

We Canadians are happy in are own slice of hevan free from the messed up country of America. Why would Canadians give up a life of wealth and and stability to start all over in a country that is going down hill. And Canadians do not put on Americans flags when we travel because we don't want to be killed. Canada is alot better than American with a higher life expectancy and ranking on the top five best countries to live in. We have the water and we have our beer and hockey. It seems to me that more Americans are coming to Canada now. Canada is the greatest nation on earth and will be the world power. Why would we live it for a country in a economic decline and fighting a pointless war.

I -- long story -- lived there for a few years, and spent the entire time homesick as hell, and extremely frustrated with the problems there.
Viz: racism. People living in really shameful -- for a supposed first-world country -- poverty. Ubiquitous guns. Right-wing politicos (and their mindless followers). Lousy health care even if you were decently insured. Etc, etc.
SoCal has great Mexican food; the Latin population does have its merits. But...
It does, yes, confuse a "But this is the greatest country on earth; everybody wants to live here!"-style American no end to point out that the overwhelming majority of Canadians, Europeans, Australians, etc, do NOT want to live there, even temporarily.
Edited to add: Re. "simply shows the person does not understand the definition of first world" -- have you compared infant mortality statistics lately?

Most of us are quite happy here, also when you travel a lot you see a lot of Americans trying to pass themselves off as Canadians, because the world does not have too much use for Americans which is sad.

Last time I checked, Canada wasn't a third world country where there are no jobs to help you feed your family. If that was the situation, and you knew that by crossing over into Manhatten you could send money home to help feed your family, I'm sure you'd risk it too.

They are:
unfortunately, one poster above uses anecdotes to support her claim that Americans are emigrating to Canada. Official stats disprove this notion. There are 5-6 thousand Americans per year emigrating to Canada out of a population of 275 million:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/research/index.html
Canadians have recentlly emigrated to the US at up to 850,000 per decade to the US, out of a population of 25 million:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_the_United_States#Immigration_summary_1830_to_2000
So, the conclusion that Canadians aren't hopping the border is incorrect and the conclusion that Americans are is also incorrect. However, statistics will not win this argument, it will be hyperbole, prejudice, ignorance and invented conclusions supported by nothing (ie please see terms as "supposed first world country" - simply shows the person does not understand the definition of first world which was the developed countries with free market economies aligned against the Soviet sphere of influence as well as non-aligned developed European countries).
