I have 2 staffies both female, one 18 months and one 8 months. Normally they are very loving towards each other but last night they got into a nasty fight. The younger one is currently in season and I am presuming this plays a part in the out of character behavior. Question is whats the best thing to do. I obviously don't want this to happen again, expecially if I am not there to break it up. They appear to be back to normal now but do I split them up until her season has finished???? Please help!

Get in touch with your vet and seek advice, staffies fights can turn nasty. Maybe consider getting the female spayed...
I would separate them for a period of time whilst she is in season....especially if they are at home alone..
Good Luck

Your pup is turning into a adolescent and there will be probably going to be a few fights along the way. I have a female Bulldog and also a female staffie.
I never leave them together if I'm going out. As i am top dog if they start fighting they normally stop if i intervene, I put both of them in separate crates. When they are in season they are more likely to fight its just a natural thing. If your not going to breed I would seriously think about spaying but make sure you don't have this done when she is to young

The problem is the older female is "in charge" and the younger one, when in heat, thinks she should be in charge.

She's at that age where she needs to find her adult place in the pack.

Chances are they'll continue this until they're sorted it out.

For their safety you might want to seperate them when you aren't there.

My dad had an experience with his German Shepherd and a Mastiff mix, both females, both unspayed, both about the same size and age. He in turn whooped both of them, in a show of he's in charge, not either of them. Didn't have an issue again besides some lip curling, but all he had to do was look at them and say "Don't even think about it".

Try to keep jealousy under control... don't give more to one than another. You showing preferential treatment to one will make her think she has power over the other.

Spaying them will help. Seperating them is a fast fix.

Same thing happened to me. I have two Weimaraners, 4 year old. and at the time pup was 7 months old. Dont think for one minute that he wont get her pregnant.... he is more than capable. If you dont want pups yet, you must kennel the ***** until her season is over. If you think she might be already be pregnant, the vet "may" her the injection to get rid of them, but my vet was very unsympathetic, they dont like to do it, as its a very powerful injection, apparantly stings like hell for the *****, and it goes into both sides of the womb, and the same thing the day after. My vet reccomended waiting until three weeks after the season had finished, and getting her spayed. Afterwards, I felt terribley guilty. I`d taken her babies away from her, and her hormones were all over the place for 2 weeks after....

I had the same problem with my two dogs and yes it was only because the ***** was on heat unfortuneately I had to seperate then for awhile as the neighbours told me that they were fighting whilst I was at work it is sad to do this but if I didn,t I would not have liked to come home from work one day and find one of them seriously hurt ...it was only for a period of three weeks then they were back to normal..best of luck

Yes, split them up and it would be a good idea to get them spayed. If they will fight each other, then they will have a go at you at some stage. Get the hormones out of the equation so you can all live happily and peacefully.

uuuuummmmmmmmm you do all know that spaying does not deter fighting don't you, jeeeeeeessssssss you all talk as if its a magic remedy for everything,oo dogs coughing get it spayed/castrated,dogs fighting get them spayed, dogs can be aggressive over many things, food, toys, belongings, etc,
I have seen dogs fight and really quite badly as well, when they have been spayed/castrated,it is not a miracle cure,
also having two animals of same sex can also be the reasoning behind fighting, different temperaments, one pushy, the other not,

I have that problem with one of my females..When she has PMS alllllllllllllllll my dogs stays clear. NO women has anything over on this dog. When she has PMS everyone knows it. She will attack my other dogs if they look at her..other than that they stay out of her way when she has PMS lol funny as heck around here when she is in heat. I wouldn't split them up not unless you think it is something else. The other dog will learn to stay clear of the demon dog, as I call mine when she is in heat.

Get them spayed and the problem should end, unless you're looking to breed them? Can't tell by your avatar if your male or female (sorry). But if you're male, they are competing for your attention, as in looking to breed hormones, but transfering it to you, since there is no male dog in the house. You are top dog, and they are competing- well the one in heat is anyway. When you're not there, they're not going to be vying for you. Give her more attention so she doesn't feel the need to fight. After her season has passed she'll be fine.
