Some airlines have ATC as one channel on the IFE In Flight Entertainment but that is your only hope, you cant ask the pilot what frequency they will be on before the flight because they dont know for sure... there are several controllers in a "Center" and each has their own frequency, they arent assigned to any one until they are actually handed off to that center...Not to mention that the use of portable radios and two way transmitters is not allowed per FAA regualtions..

In most of the Airlines you are not permitted to carry any reciever or a transmitter. Any way you can have a Hand Held Vhf set with the frequency range from 118.000 to 300.000. You can get the frequencies from the web of all the Airports. You got to know the routing and enroute agencies. You can then listen to communication. When ever ATC adivise pilot to change over to next ATC he gives frequency so you got to have one frequency of deoarture aerodrome. Rest you will keep on getting.

You can fly United and listen in, if they connect it. It's more interesting than their other in-flight entertainment options.

Alternatively... you can use an Opto-Scout, which is a frequency counter, to find the frequency the a/c is currently transmitting on and then use an air-band scanner to listen in. It's hard to follow along because they tell you can't use the radio during the early stages of the flight.

On United it's channel 9 But it's up to the captain as to whether or not to make it available. Check in the entertainment information section in the back of the flight magazine

You can get the frequency info about the airports and tune in if your local authorities permit that. Just keep your fingers off the Tx button if you have transmit facilities.

I presume you mean a channel on the entertainment system? I believe that this was done some time back, but I haven't heard of it recently.
