I have 2 staffies both female, one 18 months and one 8 months. Normally they are very loving towards each other but last night they got into a nasty fight. The younger one is currently in season and I am presuming this plays a part in the out of character behavior. Question is whats the best thing to do. I obviously don't want this to happen again, expecially if I am not there to break it up. They appear to be back to normal now but do I split them up until her season has finished???? Please help!

It's quite common for bitches to fight when one of them is coming into or is in season. The younger one now wants to be top dog. I would never leave them together if you are not there, Staffies are powerful dogs & you could come back and find one or both of them badly injured.Don't split them up while you are there (as long as you are confident another fight is not going to break out). If you split them up completely you may have problems re-introducing them. They may or may not be OK once her season is over but, unfortunately, once the young one is mature they may never get on. Having one or both of them neutered may help, but there is no guarantee. This is the reason it's usually better to have 2 dogs of opposite sexes.

i wud consider getting them spayed as it will decrease the tension between them, the 18 month old may have been tryin to show dominance over the 8 month old with her bein in season, so it may be ur best bet if u dont want it happening again, staffies can do alot of damage to each other if they fight again, my male staff got into a fight with another male staff and her wasnt a pretty sight afterwards and the vets bill was extortionate!!

I would suggest splitting them up. In my friend's case, there was a house move which unsettled the dogs (brother and sister). The fight was so nasty that neither my friend nor her husband could intervene with any success. The result was that the male dog ended up completely paralysed down his back end which he never recovered from. The male dog was nursed for years and the female went to stay with a relative. I am not trying to scare you, but please, just be wary.

i have 6 dogs wel was 7 but gave one away. anyway that is usually the main reason they fight if its not over food or attention so yes the best thing to do is keep them seperated when they are on heat. you lucky you only have females coz the males can get really vicious with eachother at this point in time.. well your options are to either get someone to keep an eye on them for you for when you not around or to have either one or both of them fixed.. i honestly dislike the last option but if it gets out of hand and you not planning on having pups this is the best option.

however if you opt for the fixed part.. just be warned they tend to pic up weight really quickly coz that happened to one of mine but shes now as plasid as a baby

Yes you must split them when in season as you know women get grumpy so do the dogs.
I take it you love your dogs very much and they are indoor pets. Good luck and if in any worry ring the vet and they will give you advice over the phone.

Depends you see they may have just been playing I have cats and they are really rough with each other making each other bleed and things but they are only playing. When they were sitting on the ironing board one was about to fall off and the other grabbed hime by the neck and pulled him back up they are both male but get along fine.

You don't say if these are inside or outside dogs. You need either a hurricane kennel or a carrying kennel. Let them take turns in it.

And yes, all B's act much b.i. zitchyer when in season.

This is probably female to female aggression and due to hormones. Get them both spayed to avoid any further fights

it would be wise to split them up, two bitches will fight when one is in season, the other one will feel resentment that the one in season could have pups, two bitches together is no wise, they will always have these little fights.
