I heard that it gets irritating to wear contact lenses designed for astigmatism, if you wear it for long periods of time. Is this true?

I have a rather severe astigmatism and have been wearing contacts for six years. They are soft, and disposable every three months. I hardly have any trouble at all, except when I wear them for more than fifteen hours; I have a pair of glasses I wear for a couple hours a day. Because the contact lenses are weighted to correct the astigmatism (not one for far, and one for near vision--that's incorrect), they can sometimes rotate strangely in the eye, but simply rubbing a bit will fix this.

I love wearing my contacts, and won't ever go back to glasses.

With contacts the physician has to give you the same prescription as bifocals -- that is you will have one eye that is focused for reading closeup and the other eye for far off sight. Works great for a while but astigmatism usually progresses with age, with or without lasik, and the strain on the brain to mix the two corrected sights into a unified vision becomes a burden. Try it. I had 24/20 for 10 years. You might try a pair of reading glasses for reading at night. That will soothe it.

I have a slight astigmatism and i wear contacts all day sometimes up to 12hrs and i never have any problems, apart from occasional dry eyes, true of all contact lens wearers.
