I'm Irish (so kiss me :-) but seriously, we eat a lot of potatoes and corn. Sometimes I will make rice, but it isn't the staple......mostly potatoes for us....I can't possibly think of categorizing America into what they use as a staple, this is the melting pot, afterall..
There are a lot of rice and bean dishes,,,taste good, but there is a lot of Hispanic influence into my cooking just by where I live and my ex was Hispanic. I make great carne asade tacos/burritoes, but the rest is as flexible as anyone else, there really is not set staple here.

um. . . depends on the person there really is not a staple most of the stores have a huge variety.
Most of the time i base my meals around chicken, pork, or beef. I rotate between those 3 for the main dish from day to day.
We do eat a lot of corn, potatoes, and wheat based products.
there really is not a set answer.

A lot of us eat meat, potatoes, salad or vegetable at least one time a day. Chicken, Beef, pork are probably the 3 most popular meats. Potatoes, fried, mashed, au gratin. Lettuce salad and/ or green beans, corn, carrots or peas are probably the top vegetables nationally, although we have dozens of others, and rice is becoming more popular as well.

I hate to say it, but it's getting perilously close to being true! Fast food, prepackaged food, frozen food... basically anything you don't have to cook yourself is becoming the American 'staple'.

Depends if you have kids or not.
Now I have kids, so we are never without peanut butter, yogurt, orange juice and Goldfish crackers, bread, chicken and pasta of some sort.
Before kids, never without beer or wine!
