In speeches it is always said that being separate makes you closer to Allah. So why pretend you want assimilation and multiculturalism?

You are talking about two extreme. are you extremist?
However, we well known set of beliefs and practices, in many cases we are no different from non-muslims and in many case we can't assimilate non-muslims.
Your question is too general.

I think the answerers above have dealt with the being seperate in Islam bit for you. I'd just add that many Muslims do want multi-culturalism, however you not at the expense of giving up the good that we have, such as respect for parents, low divorce rate, better family unit.

Yes I agree that many of the Muslims in Britian have to lose some of thier cultural mentality such as forced marriages an d the like which has nothing to do with their religion.

The basic concept of islam is that muslim should keep the society and religion togather......and should be moderate in followig the both...He should not be too religious to cut off from the world and just spend all the time in worshiping and ignoring his duties like the one he/she has to offer as a son, husband and father ..............nor should he be soo abosorbed in the society that he should forget the religion at all and don't bother to offer even prayers!

So basically islam forces on both.....religion and society ! Now being seperate stands some differnt meaning.....We are told to worship in quiet places and one can concentrate more if they offer prayer in some place where the environment favours it ! it does not state that one should just cut off the world and should sit all alone and spend time only in worship! so we do respect the culture as well !\

Peace !!

is it not difficult to bring the truth of the one god into conversation when all the questions only want to talk about the decieved minority who under lie and deceit would fain to cause terror
god has one people yet many prophets were sent
each has thier own messenger from the one god
yet does even those who follow jesus talk with one loving voice
does the islamb concerse as one
do the jew remain as the one
even lord budda house is devided

recall that jesus spake when his fathers belief became sects of the doves etc
it is spoken ye who live in glass houses will not throw stones
who is the more devided the people of god or the people of gods messengers

as one for the one god
enjoining our difference endowed upon each by the love of the one god
each yet has thier own face

god bless mulit-culture-ism forget asss im ill late ion

enjoin as many divergent returning back to the one people of god
love /light /life/truth
all for the one

In the name of Allah the most Gracious themost merciful
Why do people read, listen and then quote out of context
anything concerning Islam. If your limited perception of thinking
makes you arrive at a conclusion that is similar to your own
beliefs you immediately want to apply it to Islam without a
cross reference.A more polite question would be ''Muslims
what do you mean when you refer to being seperate from
society''?

Your question itself is part of the answer as Islam tells us that
if we hold on to the belief in one God and the Message
brought by the prophet [peace be on him ] then we Have to be
seperate from others in terms of our religious beliefs and
concepts.we will also be concidered seperate by people who
will label us with different labels like you have done by labelling us pretensious without knowing the Teachings of
Islam or what Islam stands for.
We are not going to apologise for wanting to be seperate or
better still Different in our belief in the one and only one God
We are going to be seperate for not wanting to commit
adultry, we are going to be seperate for not wanting to drink
alcohol and use drugs,We are going to be seperate for not
wanting to take or lend money on interest,we are going to be seperate by asking our women to dress modestly and not
reveal her beauty to the wolves around ,we are going to be
seperate by praying five times a day , in general you will find
the MuslimSeperate from all forms of evil actions that go against the commandments of God almlghty.
Here is another example of how you peopl have a seperate
Agenda for Muslims,If for example some one attacks your
wife will you offer your daughter like in turn the other cheek ?
you will definitely fight back and want the death penalty for the
criminals. But if a Muslim fights to defend his honour and if
Islamic law says give the death penalty to the criminals you
will paint it with a seperate brush and call the Muslims and the
Islamic law barbaric./??? When you attack and kill innocent
women and children you say eveything is fair in war, when the
muslim fights back to protect his rights you label him a
Terrorist so it is you people who are trying to seperate Us.

Islam enjoins peace and brotherhood,Islam demonstrates
practical steps in this regard.A muslim is reguired to share
2.5 % of his wealth to the poor and the needy. Our prophet
[peace and blessings be on him ] informeds Muslims that he
is responsible for peace and welfare of 40 neighbours around
him.A muslim is told that he cannot be a Muslim if he has his
tummy full and his neighbour sleeps hungry. Our prophet adviced us to accept dinner invitations and allowed us to eat
at a Jews of a Christians house provided we do not consume
what is forbidden in Islam. We can study among you as long
as there is no intermingling of the sexes, we can take part in
social and sporting activities as long as it does not involve
anything forbidden in Islam, we can be involved in politics and
do Lawful buisness with the mainstream there is no alienating
ourselves from the day to day aspects of life.
yes we do keep away from festivites and cultural agendas
because in the guise of such activites all kinds of evil actions
are allowed and promoted without a second thought. A Muslim who is afraid of God almighty and the punishment of
the hell fire would like to stay away from Following the footsteps of Satan who beautifies the evils of this world for us.

those "being seperate" is actually refer to being in isolated place,be lonely is quiet place, not baing seperate in group.

muslims go to quiet place to get calm and close to allah when praying to allah.in arab, they called it being "khusyuk"

so,being "khusyuk" doesn't have nothing to do with with seperating group like sunni, shia, etc.
