... Your preference for the canine faction aside ;), I'd say cats are "take you or leave you" by their more 'solitary' nature, as opposed to the 'pack' mentality of the dog world. And since I own both (three domestic shorthair felines, and a Great Dane/German Shepard mix), I've had the opportunity to observe both sides of each species, and watch them interact with each other. The last cat I got was initally terrified of my sweet-tempered dog, and would cry and hiss for no reason. Given time and trust, now he rubs up against her, and lays on her if given the chance..! ;) ...

there are different cat personalities usually depending on breed, I refuse to be manipulated by a cat. Dogs are loyal because if they weren't we wouldn't breed from them.

Cats are just as loyal as dogs! I know a cute little Yorkie who has my whole apt. building of 165 Ats. wrapped around her little paw.A Yorkie is a dog as you know. So dogs can manipulate as well! Please don't judge cats in such a negative light.

You could change the question to
"Why are cats aloof and dogs friendly?"
You would get the same answer from me.
Dogs lived in packs in the wild so they learnt social behaviours.
Cats lived on their own and had to fend for themselves and had to do all their own dirty work so there was no need for social etiquette.
Hope this answers your question!!!

I don't know what you mean by cats being manipulative. Cats are solitary individuals, dogs are pack animals. Dogs have an instinctive urge to please and obey the Alpha animal in their "pack." Cats don't live in groups, and therefore have no reason to behave in a social manner. Cats do what they please because they are not restricted by pack hierarchy.

Plus they supply a guardianship place over their kinfolk and keen will sacrifice their lives to guard their grasp and different contributors of their human p.c... shall we see a cat try this.

Cats rule, dogs drool!
Really, this is just your perception. Cats are much more independent and they know what they want. Dogs are just so darned willing to please they'll do anything. Cats could care less.

I think it depends on what you want from your pet. I like cats - they're independent and aren't needy. Every now and again they'll come and sit on your lap and purr - and then when they've had enough, they go off and do whatever they want. I like that.
