Its a radio competition and this quiz is vital because it knocks 67 people out and there will only be 3 couples left that go down to the final vote!!!!!

Ill start off by answering Maz's questions...

Why is the wedding band worn on the left hand, on the ring finger...?
This one has been answered multiple times above... so I wont answer it again LOL
What is the cost of the average UK wedding?
Im not from the UK, but the average US wedding is between $22,000 and $27,000
What is the symbol of love, and why?
Thid depends who you ask, some say heart (as in valentine's day) and it is because you supposedly love with your heart as it is the core of your being... others would say the ring or circle, and this would be because it is neverending - no beginning, no end
Why is confetti/rice thrown at weddings?
It isnt very often anymore, but it started with rice and the reason was that the guests were showering the happy couple with "good luck and fertility" as rice is a sign of fertility and a good crop brought alot of money so a good crop was very lucky
Why does the bride carry flowers/bouquet when working down the aisle?
This was explained in a post above as well... it was to ease the smell on the noses of the guests as baths were not a common occurance.
What does the cutting of the cake symbolise?
In earlier years there was no wedding cake, guests brought bread and piled it as high as they could, if the couple could still kiss over the pile, it was considered good luck , they would then break a loaf of the bread over the brides head. (again with the fertility stuff) Which is where the later cutting of the cake came from.
Why is it tradition for a bride to wear white?
It was tradition for the bride to wear white (supposedly) to symbolize she was still a virgin, however this is rather hard to believe since the custom didnt start until after queen victoria wore white at her wedding.
What does the garter symbolize?
Garters are actually a rather modern custom as it was easier to get the "something old, new, borrowed or blue" into the ceremony using one. Traditionally the dress was blue not white, it wasnt until after queen victoria's wedding that white became common.
What is the most common wedding gift?
Money is currently the most common wedding gift, I suppose because most people are unsure what a couple would want and everyone can use money.

For more interesting wedding trivia do a search for wedding trivia or wedding traditions origins
heres a site that has some of the facts about traditions

The reason people wear rings on their left ring finger is because it was believed the "Heart Vein" went directly to that finger.

The veil tradition started to ward off evil spirits, it was thought they couldn't see through the veil until right before the sealing the vows with a kiss when it is lifted and then it was too late for them to curse the union.

There is also something about a sixpence being in a brides shoe but I don't know what that one is.

The honeymoon started back in the day when it was thought that new couples needed time to get to know each other since they didn't live together or rarely even knew each other before marriage. The term was born because honeymoons were traditionally one month long, the length of a full moon cycle.

I think everything else is pretty much covered.

I have a few facts about weddings.
one is the reason why most wedding were performed in June is because back in the old days, people didn't have baths very often, and so they would take them in the spring, the man first, then the children and the woman was last. they all used the same water.
The reason there was a bouquet of flowers that the bride held was so people would smell the flowers instead of them.
Then there is the saying.. something borrowed, something new, something old and something blue. those are the things that the bride would have on her when she took her vows for good luck.

Try and learn what all the anniversaries mean ... i.e 40 is ruby etc.
Familiarise yourself with what goes on that the service, think of popular honeymoon destinations, try and see if there's a website that tells you have often the best man has lost the rings, or what percentage of grooms faint at the alter. See if any sites give you an average cost of weddings these days, see what the most popular wedding gifts are, see what the most popular song for the couple first dance is ......
Can't think of any others but i'll report back if i do.

The first answer had some good questions, the answer to the symbolism of the cake cutting is two fold, depending on who you listen to:
It was the first time the bride and groom "broke bread" with each other. As time evolved, so did the cake. Originally, it was bread, then got sweeter and sweeter, and bigger and bigger so it could be shared with all.
My videographer told me it was merely to entertain the guests.

The ring in some cultures is worn on the left hand because there is a vein that goes directly to the heart from the left ring finger. Other cultures (Greek, that I know of) wear it on the right ring finger because although the vein in the left goes directly TO the heart, the vein in the right hand comes directly FROM the heart, so it is not "used" as it is in the left hand.

My aunty got me a wedding book from next that is good.
I will have a quick think and try to remember a few things.
Its traditional for the parents of the bride to pay for most of it. The couple have to pay for flowers and cars (actaully I think that is meant to be the grome) please excuse any bad spellings. This isnt as common as it use to be. It is tradition that your father walks you down the Aisle your fiance asks for your hand in marraige. I will read it when I get home tonight and try and email you some stuff. Also I recommend buying a wedding magazine.
I hope you win good luck

Some cultures require the bride to hang the bloody bed sheet out of the window the night after the honeymoon to prove she was a virgin. The proof is hanging right there for the neighborhood to visually verify!
Something old, something blue, something bloody!

google wedding facts or wedding tidbits. you will probably get a load of info.
