Its already happening again. Interesting that it has been predicted. We are smack dab in the middle of WWlll. There are some very interesting comments but the truth is we have broken almost every treaty there is- and most other countries have as well. It is terribly out of hand and Russia being so broke they have to sell anything to everyone. They cannot afford to compete in the old cold war description and currently they do not have the capacity to be much of a threat unless they align with China officially- which is a very strong possibility considering all that is going on.

We are desparatly trying to make a stronghold in the Middle East and our catastrophic failure at this is alienating our allies and the ones who are nuetral are beginning to side against us- or see us in a bad light- which if push comes to shove and they are forced to choose sides- it may not be us.

Cold war, no. Hot relations yes. China is shaping up to be America's fiercest competitor. The US cannot afford to alienate Russia no matter how annoyed the US gets. The US will lose Japan as its best ally in Asia (in the future - maybe 10 years) and Russia's proximity to China will serve American interests in the region.

There is no chance of a cold war in the changing weather conditions. A hot war may erupt if the situation goes out of control. USA howls for political supremacy while Russians strive for economic freedom.

When did the old one end? While its true it has dialed itself down Russia has been doing what it can to do everything against us politically that it can. Look at everyone we have had to go to war with over the past 20 years they are all equiped with Russian weapons. So to me the old cold war never ended.

nope not a cold war between US and Russia
but a cold war may be possible if China and some other eastern countries form an alliance and develop a strong military and compete with the US

Not much, Russia doesn't have the manpower, money or political capital it once held over most of eastern Europe. So, no.

PS. Beaver, selling missiles to Iran makes no difference, hell France does that too and nobody is cold warring with them , its called good old fashioned capitalism. Period!

Terrifying as it is, yes. With Russia's relationship with Iran and Syria, the weapons that they are providing these countries with are being used against U.S. troops. Just the same, as another poster stated, our relationship w/ China will probably be the most scrutinized in the future. Russia is keeping them close for economical reasons, no doubt.

There may be a resemblance, but I don't see it escalating to the scale we saw in the 1980's. Russia simply does not have the financial ability to escalate it to that level.
