Johnny is a sort of a bully. A mean kid. He has an ant farm, and he likes that. But from time to time he gets bored of the ants. He takes a bucket filled with water, and throws the water over the ants. Most of them drown, a few survive, because Johnny was so sweet to give them a little piece of wood.

Some time later, when the ant population has grown again, these ants are still argueing on Yahoo!Ants whether or not Johnny loved all of them. Some ants defend Johnny, some are even willing to die for him. Others call Johnny mean, and some don't even believe Johnny exists.

I just talked to Johnny, and he finds the ants kinda silly. I tend to agree with him. How about you?

Johnny may or may not exist outside of this question.

My main concern is with those ants that claim a deep understanding of the motives of Johnny in order to claim ownership of the nest.

Ants are quite dignified. It's uncles you have to watch out for.... ;o)

Everything in your argument stands on your first few assertions: God is a bully, He's mean and He grew bored with mankind. If I agreed with that, the rest of your argument would make sense, but I don't agree.

You don't, for instance, have the ants taking their nice farm and their skills and abilities to only do evil to each other all the time. Let's say you have 8 ants who are still trying to build a community and working together and the rest of the ants are destroying all their work. Do you save the 8 ants, or do you let the rest kill them and each other? Do you salvage what is good, or let the whole thing self-destruct?

That little piece of wood you refer to took 100 years or so to build. And while Noah was building, he tried to teach others, who would not hear him. I don't think it was for God's sake that Noah preached 100 years. It was in the hope that more of mankind would repent and be saved. If He didn't love them, He wouldn't have been so patient with them. This was 100 years _after_ their wickedness had become so bad that they never had any thought of good anymore.

(I'll be back....) You know your Y!A addiction is bad when you almost miss an appointment answering a question..... ;o)

It's easy to be suspect of God's intentions and miss our own responsibilities. It's hard for me to imagine the world being so bad that of all it's inhabitants only 8 ever thought good, positive, loving things. And maybe that's why it's hard to fathom why God would do this.

In the end, I believe in His goodness. Even though I can't imagine that great a percentage of the world being this way, I've certainly met people who would never willingly cooperate with another human being. The lesson I take from this is that life is not an entitlement. I can't go through it being a brat and not caring about other people around me. What I do influences and affects other people.

Ants aren't silly. They're in it for survival. It would be a self-destructive colony that turned on itself and lived "every ant for itself!" with no thought for community. A colony like that would not survive.

I don't think the ants are silly. I think they are awesome. Perfect in their imperfection even. A wonder to behold. And I think you will find that if you had actually talked to Johnny you would feel the same way eventually.

Calling "ants" silly? Think again, friend...

6: Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8: Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9: How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? (Proverbs 6:6-9 KJV)

Hear that? The scriptures calling you "sluggard" and advice you to learn from them? It means that these "ants" are wiser than you? I cannot imagine an ant teaching you how to be wise? And ALSO, I tend to agree with the scripture. how about you, friend?

Sounds to me like you don't know the first thing about true Christianity or the fact that Jesus died for you. You will never understand God's love, until you accept Him in your heart. I am praying for you to find the truth.

Totally agree. I suspect some people here didn't really get the question. Kinda silly is putting it mildly!
