Keep her in a dark room at night, perhaps in her carrier or a crate, with her food water and litter. You can cover it with a blanket to make it darker, just be sure she is getting air in there. During the day if it's not such a problem (eg: neighbours complaining about her yowling) then let her yowl.

They tend to not eat properly when they're on heat as they're only interested in one thing so give her a good feline vitamin supplement to keep her healthy.

If she won't settle, then as a last resort (only if temperatures are warm enough to do so), give her a bath, or at least take a really wet, warm face cloth and wash her over with it, she will be so busy licking herself she will forget to yowl.

You can do the q-tip thing but you need to be careful, you can damage the uterus, vagina and even the urinary tract. Also, it will only take her off and she will be back on in a week or fews time depending on her cycle.

OK I know this sounds GROSS but I have heard and maybe you can look up "how to" on this internet but there is a way to make them come out of heat by using a Q-tip on their well........ kitty parts?? my frined does this to her cat but I would not recommend it for very long. Hope this helps.
