I filed for child support 3 years ago for my almost 4 year old daughter. I have yet to see a single penny. I call the child support office regularly, but it is always the same answer. He lives in Ohio, I live in Kentucky. He keeps running.... They took his tax refund this year, but that was for the money which he owed the state of KY for medical expenses. I told the child support investigator that, and she said that it will in no way help me. Is there a way I can receive any type of child support without him actually paying?

Okay, let me expand on my situation so I don't unintentially receive negative feedback.

Garfield- Believe it or not, I work everyday, or shall I say night, because I do not have the money to put my daughter in a daycare. I dont smoke, drink, or do drugs, nor do I go out to parties or clubs. I hang out between friends and my home. I do splurge a little, every ONCE in awhile, such as last month, I took my daughter to the CIRCUS... something for HER to enjoy, and myself to enjoy by seeing her face light up at every little thing. My father watches my daughter at night so I can work, and then I stay up with her all day, until my dad gets off work, I then drop her off, and go back home for a few hours of sleep before I go to work. It is very hard, but very rewarding

Waterlilly- It was not a mistake, or accident, and yes, it was very worth it. My daughter brightens my day everyday, I do not receive any state help, because I do agree with you, its not fair. Which is why my daughter is

in daycare. It is bad enough I have to depend on my father to help me take care of her, but at the same time, I would not have to have him help, if I did receive child support so I could put her in daycare, and I could go back to first shift.

The father of the child, and myself were together for three years before my daughter was conceived. I was on birth control. When I became pregnant everything was fine at first, but I guess as my belly started to grow, reality set in, and he split.

Waterlilly- Trust me 3 years, I thought I knew him well enough, the pregnancy was not planned, but at the same time, I thought that he would stick around. I am not ashamed 1 bit for not giving her up for adoption, I thought about it, but I knew I could do it.

Thus far I have made it, with the help of a few family members, but my daughter deserves to be in child care, she enjoys being with me everyday, and I think she is one of the smartest children of her age, that I have

ever known.

Enough of my excuses, and reasoning. Take it as you will. I just wanted to know if the state would pay me child support in the mean time of tracking him down. You would think that if they paid me, he would owe the state, and then the state would want him that much more for oweing THEM the money.

listen, you need to stop upsetting yourself over some of these ignorant people... they dont have a clue what your going through, and some are just idiots.

NO, you can not recieve support if he is not paying, but you CAN apply some heat so that he DOES pay.

seems to me, you need some heat on your case, and it seems to me, that you need to write a letter also.

1) call your caseworker and ask:
--where you apply for interest on the arrears?
--was the case submitted for tax refund intercept?
--was the arrears reported to the credit reporting agencies yet?

2) sit down and write a letter. in it, give your contact info, case number, his info, arrears amount, him not paying support at all and ask them what they are doing about it. ask them why a lein is not put on his bank accounts, drivers license taken away, warrants out for his arrest. tell them you respectfully request that all state and federal child support laws be applied to your case.

keep the letter short, its more effective that way.

then take that ONE letter and FAX it to the following:
a) your states Attorney General (link is below)
b) your states Governor (link is below)
c) your states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office (link is below)

FAX them to both states reps (all of them listed) since you live in separate states.

phone calls are useless; they are ignored, denied and forgotten. mail ends up on someones "to do" pile, but FAXES are effective. its proof you sent it and proof they recieved it, therefor, they HAVE to address it. if you cant find a fax number (most are listed online) then just call them and ask for it.

if you hear nothing in a week, fax them again. fax them weekly if need be. its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, if ya know what i mean.

who cares if you miff 'em off, just keep at them (weekly) until something is done or your case addressed. even if they contact you and tell you they dont handle this, or that... keep sending them... to all of them.

3) post his DEADBEAT FACE ON A DEADBEAT SITE ONLINE.

I see it this way: if you are working then you are supposed to pay for your child as well, and circus tickets are expensive so look for free things for her to do.

Is the child's father listed on the birth certificate? Is he the "proven" father by a cheek swab dna test? Could it be he's running because you tricked him into your having a child, or could it be the child is an unintended consequence of sex and one night of enjoyment, well those are the reasons most guys won't pay for kids.

If the father won't pay then it's on your shoulders to support the child. Some day that kid will want to know why their father abandoned them. So another question would be would you have approved him seeing his daughter if he paid his support payments? Is this guy a jailbird? Maybe he had a bad background and doesn't want to get stuck like his father was stuck. But there's the other situation, are the two of you married? divorced? The courts provide a list of how much a guy is supposed to give his ex-wife for each child (and she only gets alimony IF she has no education so as to get a job).

In place of child support the government has programs, like food stamps and such. So if you don't want to receive the state money then who else do you think will help you support your daughter????

It's between you and the government now.

The only thing I can think you might have heard, is that you may qualify for some state assistance, which you must have looked into and received if his state tax return went to the state you live in. Other than that you cannot receive support from anyone else.

If he is receiving a tax return that means he is working... do you know where? Or what he does? If you have not received a single voluntary payment in three years you can request a felony referral, assuming they have already filed contempt charges on him. Has this been done? Unfortunately the Ohio Child Support System is huge and there are not enough workers for all of the cases... not your fault and not your workers fault. I would first see what has been done, and go from there. Hopefully he will eventually settle down and get a real job and support his daughter.

Good Luck,

I would get an attorney that handles these types of cases on it. In a lot of states, people who do not pay their child support can lose their drivers license and/or do jail time. The only thing you can do meantime is keep doing what you are doing and work. If you need other assistance, don't be too proud to go to the state and ask for some. That is what it is there for and it isn't like you are sitting around taking handouts. I have a friend who's ex husband owes her a substantial amount of back support and the judge ordered that he pay his current amount PLUS a certain amount of his back pay and if he misses one payment, he will automatically be forced to do six months jail time. Call some attorneys, Hun, there are some out there that work for little or no money when it comes to cases like yours. The only thing the state will do is nail him on what he owes THEM first (medical bills and such) and you won't see any of it until he pays that off with them. Good luck, Sweetie....I know how hard it can be being a single parent trying to provide on your own. Shame on those parents that think they have no obligation to their children when the relationship is over!!!

First ...take a deep breath....let it out.
The state does not pay the child support. Your ex boyfriend does or will when they catch him and they will eventually catch him. Your doing your best by your daughter just don't waste to much of your energy trying to get this guy to pay up. The only way to receive money from the state is to go on one of their programs and I wouldn't suggest that unless you are destitute. Because getting off the programs can be very difficult. Just be a good mommy to your daughter. Think about it this way.... When he does finally settle down and he will, the state periodically checks on old child support cases. they'll nail him when he least expects it. Child support doesn't have a statute of limitations.
Best of luck to you your daughter and your dad.
Blessed be

Don't depend on his dead beat ***.

Work on bettering your financial situation by taking some online courses or getting a better paying job, that way you won't have to make a 2nd job of figuring out how you can get him to pay all this backed child support.

If he's running around and around, trust me that's punishment enough for that loser. If you put in the paperwork, eventually it'll catch up with him when you least expect it and you'll get some unexpected checks. :)

Act as if he's dead and just raise your daughter as best you can without his help.

Best thing to do is to get an attorney involved or better yet call the state Attorney General's office and check what recourse you have on collection of child support. Go above the child support investigator's head. They are evasive for the most part anyway.

There are judges who will garnish wages, so that a portion of a salary is paid directly to the mother for support. That requires that he has a job and that you find a judge in that state willing to take that action.

Instead of money for lawyers, you might be better off using the money to hire a couple of large men with sticks, who can "convince" your husband that payment on a regular and timely basis is the only way to insure that they will not return.

Yes, what site or phone number to call, I have absolutely no idea. But, I know that when I was younger my biological father was not paying his court ordered child support, my mother filed a claim, with I'm guessing the state, and they started paying her. He'll be in ALOT of trouble that way though, lol. I'd suggest looking it up on the internet, or go to your local health services place or whatever their called. Good luck.

No. I'm 21 years old, and I have never seen any child support from my father. He refused to pay. The thing is, the child support agency can put a lean on him- meaning they take his paycheck, investments, etc- with one catch, he has to file with the child support agency! If he's not paying, there's no chance he's willing to do that.
