It's not always, but most of the time. Why do people do that? I don't give thumbs down for people who claim to follow a religion, so why should people feel it is so wrong to be an atheist.

You keep bad company, you travel with the wrong crowd. The religious mind is incapable of accepting atheists. We are the very antithesis of religion. Any religion. Believing in Islam is OK. At least you believe. You might be in the wrong but you believe. You know the "my religion is the true one" syndrome. Atheism is the absence of any belief. Atheism is the very antithesis of Faith. We are the one and absolute enemy. We have no belief but only knowledge and logic as the tools of the trade. We have a serious problem with Proofs of the logic" God is god because he is God"

In general I give a thumbs down if I find an answer which is factually wrong. But many people seem to give a thumbs down if they don't agree with something that is a matter of opinion.

Even the best theologians in the world haven't proved there is a God, so it is a matter of opinion and nobody should give a thumbs down to someone who claims that God does not exist.

I think you'll just have to live with it, though. Luckily, the voters who choose the best answer tend to be more disciminating than the people who just click the thumbs down on everything they don't like.

Don't feel bad. Whenever I mention I'm a Christian, I often get thumbs down, too.

It just goes to show that there is PLENTY of ignorance on both sides.

For the record, I don't give someone thumbs down just for being an atheist, or any other religion.

Edit: See what I mean? Two thumbs down so far, and I willingly admitted that some of my Christian brothers and sisters are JUST as ignorant as anyone else, including atheists.

You see stuff like that all the time here. The thumbs have nothing to do with the quality of your quesiton or answer, just with weather someone agreees with your world view.
I have often noticed thumbs down for completly neatral responses ( for example someone asked what is your favorite biblical passage and I repsonded, can their be a right or wrong answer? nevertheless, I got thumbs down)
Don't worry about it, People who are two small and weak to express their aggression in the real world use thumbs down to do it here, even when not warrented. They need your pity and understanding.

It's not you it's your answers are not true.

Feel free to give me thumbs down...it's the violations reports that are aggravating, just because someone doesn't agree.

That's what the thumbs are for..to say agree or disagree.

EDIT: For example

To the recent ark question you answered......

Damn ! You've used simple common sense to show just how illogical the story really is. Be careful though, the dumb fundies will just come up with some stupid excuse about it all being gods plan or something like that.

Atheism. You know it makes sense.

It had nothing to do with you being an aetheist; bvut, everything to do with your insulting anyone that doesn't agree with you "fundies will just come up with some stupid excuse about it all being gods plan or something like that." You expect respect from others when you just hurl a personal insult or warning of one for their differing opinion????
Sure there are many that call themselves Christian that tell you "you are going to hell"...I don't I'll telll you that. I'll tell you that you're wrong or need more research; but, not that you are stupid. you reap what you sow.

I would only give a thumbs down if someone was pretty insulting and brought no point or answer to the question, as long as the comment made is to the question being asked, have at it. Who cares what you claim, just answer the question with the knowledge you have.

Maybe it isn't because of your being an atheist, but because of what you say. I give a thumb down if I see something that is what I deem as being out in left field, or just plain dumb, or arrogant, etc...
I get a thumb down a lot of times. I don't sweat it. In fact there are times it helps me prove a point. Don't let it bother you. Blow it off.

Ken Sisk has the truth of it, but I doubt either of us will get the 10 points.

Not knowing you I looked up some of your answers. Your "thumbs down" have very little to do with your atheism, and everything to do with your language and tone:

"You too can become an ignorant bigot, with the help of the fundementalist christians."

It's not there all the time and you turn in your fair share of best answers, so I don't know what prompts you to it. But you just don't get through to people by insulting them, and you shouldn't be surprised if they respond negatively when you do.

If you do it to relieve your feelings fine, but, like a fart, don't expect it to be widely appreciated.

Don't take it personally. I'm a Christian and get lots of thumbs down. But so does every other religion/faith on here. People just seem to love that button. Of, course, most would not admit to using it. lol

There are a lot of trolls that fly the Atheist flag to try and upset the Christians. The same way the KKK flies the confederate battle flag.
