Have to write a letter, and want to say something like "And I was singing a song to you". "Y te cantabe una cancion" or how do I say it? Thank you lots.

y te cantaba una canción (with "a", not "e" at the end) could mean "I was singing you a song" or "I used to sing you a song".

Te estaba cantando una canción - is specifically "I was singing a song to you"

Well there are two past tenses: preterite and imperfect.

Imperfect: "Y te cantaba una canción"
This is more like a "And I used to sing a song to you"

Preterite: "Y te canté una canción"
This is like: "And I sang a song to you"

You can also say: "Y te estuve cantando una canción"
"And I was singing to you a song"

The tense thats used the most is the preterite tense. The difference is very hard to explain but I have a link for you!
