The estimate of taxes and assessments due to import a U.S. car into Espagne sounds about right. Each of the European countries will have similar or more severe importation charges. The only break you might get is if your car was built in an EEC country. I would suggest you inquire what it would cost to import the same U.S. car into Germany or France where the I.V.A. is about 17-19%. Only the military or members of the diplimatic core have been able to import U.S. cars duty free into most of the NATO countries. The U.S. cars cannot be sold (or crashed, or junked) in any foreign country without first paying the import duties. Suggest you buy a very suitable SEAT after you get to Spain. It is very much more suited to the lifestyle you will encounter there, and you can probably sell it in Spain when you decide to leave.

You have get already answer from your question but that is not enpogh you must pay the tax on CIF basic, i.e.suppose your car value is $ 2500 and shipping on board is $ 1000 in this case your cars value is $ 3500. and you must pay the tax of $ 3500.

Check out this site:

http://www.shipmyvehicle.com/default.aspx

They offer free estimates on shipping that (I think) include taxes, etc.

Fill out the form and send them an e-mail if you're still not sure. They should know what to do.

Hope this helps!
